I took this photo at a train station in Spain. For some reason I enjoy taking photos of posted train and/or plane schedules when I travel.
Now you would think that after having made several international trips that my brain would be able to automatically register 1500 hours as being 3:00 pm or that 1600 hours is 4:00 pm. But to be honest, I still have to calculate and translate it manually in my head. I'll deduct 12 from 15 to get 3:00 pm, 12 from 16 to get 4:00 pm and so on.
But wait, I'm so paranoid about my calculations being wrong, I'll also whip out my handy-dandy 24-hour time travel conversion calculator (aka fingers) and count 1300 (1pm), 1400 (2pm), 1500 (3:00 pm), 1600 (4pm). Ah yes, my train leaves at 4pm or okay that's when the museum will close.
Well, it's now 0600 hours and I have to hit the road so I won't be late for work today. Thankfully, there's no need for me to conduct any calculations in my head or on my time travel conversion calculator, because my brain automatically knows that 0600 is 6:00 am. :)
Great photo, Kathy! I'm the same way - I always have to do a lot of thinking to calculate the time (using your fingers is a great idea!).
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
Hi Annie, thanks so much for liking my photo. I thought I was the only one who has to calculate from the 24-Hour time. I feel like I should automatically know it but I just can't seem to memorize them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend too!
Yikes re your hitting the road shortly after 6am to go to work, Kathy! You must have a l-o-n-g commute... :O
ReplyDeleteHi YTSL, lol, I work a 9/80 schedule so I work 8, 9-hour days, 1, 8-hour day and for that, I get one day off for two nice 3-day weekends a month. Add a 22 mile commute to a long 9 hour day and the dreaded LA traffic, 0600 is pretty much my hit the road target time. :)
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Perfect for the theme! My brain is a bit too foggy right now to work out the time though ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the theme.
ReplyDeleteFrankly My Dear
I grew up within that system :) Happy weekend!
ReplyDelete~ time
I tried working out the times, too confusing for me too. haha....
ReplyDeleteHave a glorious year ahead Kathy!
I never thought that it would be such a problem between 1 pm and 13 h, lol ! We have always used both. Good idea to take pictures of the time tables at least you can check how often the trains are delayed :) !
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, thanks so much for your comments....
ReplyDeleteSue, I know the feeling.... :) Thanks so much for liking my photo pick for this week's theme.

Marcy, lucky you. But can you go from 24 to 12? :-D Thanks so much for your comments.
ECL, me too! :) Have a glorious year too. Thanks so much for your comments.
Gattina, I will confess that I in fact have finally memorized 1300 hours, but I still need to conduct my calculations for all others. :) Thanks so much for your comments.
Thanks so much everyone. Have a great weekend!
Interesting…..I use exactly the same calculator here in Rome! :) Hope all is well with you!
