Koa - Journey to the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.  

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.  

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heat.  

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together . . . .

Dear Koa! We will always remember and love you. 

Koa is my sister's dog who I was fortunate to get to know during my visits to Hawaii.  While visiting, Koa always gave me unconditional love and affection during those times when I needed it.  Seeing him always made me smile. I was so lucky to have known him. And my sister and her family were very lucky to have had him as part of their family.  It makes me so happy to know that he is healthy now and running around in beautiful meadows and fields up in heaven with our family and friends who have gone before us.  

You will always be present in our hearts.  

We love you so much and we will miss you Koa.

Dear Elizabeth . . .

I have been really avoiding posting this blog, but I've been wanting to give everyone an update on Elizabeth and so when Donna SF posted a comment asking about Elizabeth, I felt it was time.

I'm sorry to disappoint everyone, but Elizabeth is back with her owners. While Elizabeth was with me, I had an allergic reaction. Her owners who really adore Elizabeth, came to get her and told me that maybe I could see my doctor about my allergies and if it works out they would gladly bring Elizabeth back.

On behalf of Elizabeth, I wanted to once again thank everyone for the very cool Virtual party and for all of your wonderful comments. At one point I tried to get Elizabeth to look at all the cute graphics and photos, but instead she plopped herself on my keyboard. So cute...

Her owners are very sweet and they gave me an open invitation to come and visit Elizabeth anytime. My sister recommended Claritin so that is what I will try when I visit Elizabeth.

Elizabeth really stole my heart and so I am hoping things will work out . . .

She's Here . . .

Hi Everyone, I finally have a chance to blog about Elizabeth's arrival. Everything went well when they brought her over. She got out of her carrier, started exploring, never ducked under the couch or bed or ran away from me. In fact, it was the complete opposite. Elizabeth went right up to my leg and started to rub up against it several times. She looked really happy to be here, I was happy and her owners were really happy too.

I exchanged e-mail and phone numbers with her owners, we talked for a long while, then they gave Elizabeth a big hug, we exchanged hugs and off they went...

Elizabeth still didn't run and hide. She sat for awhile looking out the window, we played a while and then

. . . to my surprise and it never even dawned on me that this would happen, but she started to look for her owners. Silly me. She started to meow and I thought she was talking to me, but she was running up the stairs, down the stairs, sniffed along the walls, ran up and down the stairs several more times, sat gazing out of the window, ran up and down again meowing . . . then I realized she was crying and missing her owners. I was felt so bad listening to her but all I could do was talk to her, pet her and give her some space. Finally, I decided to lay down and take a nap. I woke up and saw her a little more calmed down and resting on the chair next to me so I took a quick photo.

She still cried on and off after this photo and I just felt so bad for her. I was thinking that she probably thought that they abandoned her. I fed her, played with her some more and now she has finally stopped meowing and is sleeping. Whew! Let me just say this. I have the greatest utmost respect for all of you out there who are parents to both children and pets...

We'll see how it goes tomorrow, but for now I think she is settling down. They gave her a blanket (it's the blue one) so that is what she is sleeping on right now. Thank you again everyone for that great Virtual Kitty Shower! It has been a really fun day for me except for the part with Elizabeth crying, but I will let her know about her new blogging friends and the party that you all threw for her. Again, many, many thanks to all of you and I hope you all have a great weekend. :)

Isn't She Lovely: Meet Elizabeth . . . .

I am so happy to introduce a sweet and gentle 2 year-old Tabby cat named, Elizabeth.

She is a very gentle cat and so beautiful. She looks so much like Annie's Lulu.

I met her and her current parents this afternoon and as soon as I saw her she melted my heart. I finished the adoption paperwork, but Elizabeth won't come home to live with me until next Saturday after she is weaned off of her medication. She was not happy in her current home because there were too many siblings (1 dog and 4 other cats). She needs to be a one and only cat to a proud and lucky owner...that would be me! :)

I found her from Petfinder and a non-profit local group of dedicated volunteers called People and Cats Together (PACT).

Obama's tough decision . . . and mine!

In an interview, George Stephanopoulos posed several questions to President Elect, Barack Obama, about the many pressing decisions that he has to make in transitioning to the White House. One of Obama's responses . . . . it has been "tougher than finding a commerce secretary.” The question, “What kind of a dog are they getting and when are they getting it?”

Okay, okay . . . so I’m not the next soon to be President of the United States and no I’m not faced with important decisions like selecting our Nation’s next Secretary of Commerce! Or that I’m getting a Kitten rather than a dog! I can still totally agree and relate to Obama’s comments on how difficult it is to find and adopt the right pet for your home.

Yesterday, I made arrangements to meet with the foster parent of the two kittens I saw on the Adoption Site. She brought them to the Adoption show which was convenient. They are a little older than their photos on the website, but are so cute. They already have names (Sally & Susie) so when I told their foster parent that I already have names for my kittens, she said that adoptive parents often rename their kittens.


In addition to Sally and Susie, I also saw two red haired kittens

and two black and white kittens that are only a few weeks old.


So here’s the thing. This decision has turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. All the kittens are so cute even the older kittens. Sally and Susie were sort of shy although I’m told that Sally is a lap kitty and very sociable. The red haired kittens are both so cute and shy (but that is also because I was told that it was their first visit to the adoption show and they were a little frightened and uncomfortable). And then there are the two youngest B&W kittens who remind me of Annie’s Maria. They aren't shy. They are so energetic and playful.


This one kitten when I moved this cloth close to her cage, she reached her little paw out and gently touched my fingers. She was so playful and tender.


They are all so cute . . . While I was enjoying playing with the one kitten, I must have tuned everything out. I turned around and saw that the adoption people were watching me play with the little kitties. I felt a little embarrassed.

The adoption people just smiled and told me to take my time because they want me to be completely happy with my choice. They told me that when I have made my decision they will need to visit my house and make sure that it is kitten proof. I’ll have to show them where I intend to put their liter box, make sure all my cords are safe, etc. I told them that I still need to buy their beds and liter box. They told me not to feel rushed. They encouraged me to return today, which I will. Plus they will have more kittens. Yikes, more choices.

Here's the other thing, I'm sort of feeling really bad for the kittens that I don't pick and I wonder if they will find homes. I'm glad that our next President is looking for their family pet at adoption shelters! It really sets a great example. I hadn't realized how many homeless animals are out there and now I am a huge supporter of pet adoptions!

The George S. interview snippet was actually sent to me by the pet adoption agency's Newsletter. In addition to the pet adoption discussion, I found it also interesting because it gives a small glimpse of the tough decisions that Obama will be facing when he takes office. So on January 20, 2009 when I watch our next President be sworn in, I will look on with great respect for the new responsibilities that he will inherit. I have confidence that he will take great care in each and every decision! Why? Because he knows how important each decision is and he is so committed to making the best possible decision for us.
