Tonight, we are surprised to hear the announcement that one of the Idol contestants has been eliminated due to undisclosed arrests. Later in the show, they revealed that it was Jermain Jones who has been eliminated. It was sad to hear the news, but it was the right thing to do given the circumstances.
Tonight the contestants will perform songs from the Year they were born and here's how the night went:
Phillip Phillips sings Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes. For someone who recently had surgery, I thought Phillip did a great job with his performance. It was a bluesy song choice and it was a perfect choice.
Jessica Sanchez sings "Turn the Beat Around" a 1970's hit remade in 1995 by Gloria Estefan. Jessica had some mixed reviews by the judges, but I enjoyed her performance a lot because it showed that she can do other songs beside ballads.
Heejun Han sings Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx. I actually love that song and for the most part I thought Heejun did okay. But I have to agree with Randy in that I thought he has more of an R&B style and a song choice in that genre may have suited him better. Still, I thought it was sweet that he said that he was thinking of his girlfriend during the song.
Elise Testone sings the Al Green classic remade by Tina Turner in 1983, Let's Stay Together. That was an awesome performance. I loved it! I loved it so much I'm going to download it from iTunes. :)
DeAndre Brackensick sings Endless Love and although the judges didn't feel it was the right song choice, we are all in agreement that he did a wonderful job with it. I'm glad that the judges made it clear that the song choice was not of his doing so hopefully America will help to keep him in the competition.
Shannon Magrane sings One Sweet Day by Mariah Carey and I thought she did a better job this week.
Colton Dixon sings Broken Heart by White Lion and I have to side with Steven. Sure he has the rock star quality looks and the cool rock outfit, but I think that his vocals aren't as strong as compared to the other contestants. Sorry, but I am having a Simon Cowell moment.
Ericka Van Pelt sings Heaven by Bryan Adams. I thought she did a great job last week and so my expectations were a little high for her tonight. She did a good job but somehow I feel like she could've done a little bit better.
Skylar Laine sings Bonnie Raitt's Love's Sneaking Up on You and I loved it. I just loved that she stuck to her guns about singing the song that she wanted to sing and she did a fantastic job with him.
Joshua Ledet sings When a Man Loves a Woman by Michael Bolton and he totally nailed it! What a passionate performance by Joshua. And now I'm craving some yummy Louisiana Craw fish.
Hollie Cavanagh sings The Power of Love by Celine Dion and I thought she did a great job. She really has such a strong voice in a small package.
And here are my favorite performances of the night: Joshua Ledet, Elise Testone, Skylar Laine, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Hollie Cavanagh and DeAndre Brackensick.
And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .
Hi Kathy, great recap. It was a good show and I enjoyed seeing what songs everyone picked. Will.i.am is an interesting mentor too, ha ha. Some of his comments were off-the-wall and funny.
ReplyDeleteJoshua was my fave of the night, for sure. The judges were kind of tough, I thought, and I'm not sure at all who will go home. Looking forward to hearing Daughtry on the results show tonight. Hope you are having a great week!
Hi Annie, thanks so much also for your recap. Yes Will.i.am I thought was interesting and a cool mentor. I'm also looking forward to see Daughtry perform. Yes I think they are trying to keep it real on the performances. I was really happy that Elise had some great reviews she had a really tough week last week which is probably why she landed in the bottom.
DeleteI still think Shannon wasn't that great. I don't know who's going home. I have a feeling it could be Ericka which would be a shame because I think maybe two others should go before her (Shannon/Heejun).
Hope you are having a great week too.
I think the right person went home last night!
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, totally agree. I felt so bad for her that when she sang for the save and somehow knowing that they probably already made up their mind that they won't use it on her. They need to get rid of the sing for the save feature and make the judges decide based upon their performances. :(
DeleteI like the final 10 and they are all deserving of going on tour. I was really happy for Elise especially because she ended up on the bottom three when she gave a great performance better than some who weren't in the bottom 3. I'm not sure if she'll win it all but she might get a record deal now, so I'm really happy for her and also for Ericka
Thanks so much for your recap of results night Annie. Go Tar Heels! :)
