~ Eiffel ~ Tower
This week I decided to head to Paris, France and feature the La dame de fer (or Iron Lady) which is a nick name given to the Eiffel tower. According to Wikipedia, the tower which was built in 1889 is the most visited paid monument in the world. I, myself, have been very lucky to visit it twice.
With views like this, if I were to travel to Paris again, I wouldn't mind a 3-peat visit to the top of La dame de fer !

Hi Kathy, your photos are fantastic! I've only visited her once and would definitely go back if I'm lucky enough to get to Paris again. Love those clouds in the sky in your view!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great week.
Hi Annie, thanks so much for liking my photo. The weather that was couldy, but it did give the photos some extra something. :)
ReplyDeleteThe lines are always long getting up there but once you're at the top looking down it all seems so worth it. Have a great week too.
Me, too, but only one visit so far. Just finished an interesting book about the Chicago World Exposition of 1893 and how they were desperate to compete with the Eiffel Tower. Their "big deal" was the first Ferris Wheel.

It struck me as funny that the Eiffel Tower and Margaret Thatcher have the same nickname!

K: Super idea and thanks for taking me to the top of the Iron Lady! I've never been there.
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit this Iron Lady someday. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone, thanks so much for your comments....
ReplyDeleteHelenmac, the book sounds like an interesting book. The first Ferris Wheel is very of cool. I didn't know that the first one was created in 1893 at the Chicago World Exposition.
Barb, I'm glad you stopped by and visited Paris and the Iron Lady with me. :)
Rose, thanks so much. When you get a chance to visit let me say that it will be worth the wait to get up to the top.
Roger, well what can I say about that. He, he.
M, you're very welcome. glad you enjoyed the view. :)
Photowannabe, thanks so much for liking my photos. When you get a chance to visit the Iron Lady, I hope that it will be a pretty day for you. But then again, even with some clouds, it's a pretty amazing view, that you will enjoy it too.
Thanks so much everyone. Have a wonderful evening.
I've only been there once but the lineups were too long to be bothered waiting to go up. I'd love to go back, though, to see the view from as far up as possible. Did you know the French hated it at first because of the colour brown. Do you know what they called it? lol

Hi Leslie, thanks so much for your comments. Yes definitely go up to the top for the magnificent view. The lines are super long but they do move fairly fast. that's interesting that the French hated it. Wikipedia a nickname was the Iron Lady. I'm not sure if there was another one given by the french who disliked it.I will try to research and see if there was another name for it
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Lovely! I've been to Paris twice but have never actually visited the Eiffel Tower. Hope you're having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, thanks so much for your comments. Well, now you'll just have to return to Paris so you can ascend the Iron Lady. I went once at night too and that is also very special with the lights. :)
ReplyDeleteHope Rome is treating you well. Have a great weekend.
The one time I was in Paris, I tried to go to the top. I waited in line forever and JUST as I got to the window, they closed and stopped giving out tickets to the top. Instead, I climbed to the second level - 710 steps! That was most likely the most tower steps I have ever climbed. Will have to get back there someday to get to the top.
ReplyDeleteHi Girasoli, wow! 710 steps! OMG you are in great shape. It's too bad they stopped it just as you got there. When you get back to Paris, definitely go up to the top. You would totally love it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening.
Ok.. late in getting back to this post. The thing is, I was not in good shape back then. I did walk a lot during my trip, but boy was I sore that next morning! Yes, I do need to get back there one day.
