AI Recap: Dim all the lights, its Disco Week on Idol . . .

It's Disco night on AI and I've been looking forward to it for a week!
Ryan opens the show by announcing that two Idols will be eliminated since the judge's one and only save was used on Matt last week! That's going to make tonight's results show very hard to watch. Yikes!

And here's how it went:

Lil starts off with I'm Every Woman by Chaka Kahn. I love that song and although the judges didn't like her, I thought she was pretty good.

Kris performs She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer. I thought it was a creative and unique take on Donna's classic. And I have to agree with Paula in that it really did have a Carlos Santana vibe to it. Loved it!

Danny sings September by EWF! Love that song and loved his performance. The judges gave him some pretty high praise! Well, Simon did have one criticism about his stage performance, calling it clumsy again. I don't agree.

Alison sings the second Donna Summer song called Hot Stuff. She slowed it down and put her own hard edge spin on the song and I loved it! Simon called it a brilliant performance.

Adam sings If I can't Have you by Yvonne Elliman! Awesome performance! I really think that Adam is probably the most talented, most unique and most creative contestant to have ever competed on the American Idol show. Watching him perform each week is almost like watching a famous artist paint a great work of art! He was so good that poor Paula was an emotional wreck after! :)

Matt sings Staying Alive by the Bee Gees! Well, I'm not sure that he accomplished to stay alive with his performance. And Simon didn't like it too.

Anoop closes the show with Dim All The Lights (the third song of the evening by Disco Queen Donna Summer)! I really like Anoop and I think he is a great singer, but was it good enough? I guess we'll find out tonight!

My standout performance of the night: Without question (and by a very long mile), Adam Lambert! I also liked Kris, Alison, Danny and Anoop.

And that's my Recap! Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Great recap Kathy! I thought the performances were strong and really enjoyed Disco Week. Kinda interesting that they didn't have a mentor this week and they went back to letting all 4 judges talk - I wonder if they cut the mentor to give the judges time?

I felt bad for Lil. Singing in the dreaded first slot, being sick, getting virtually sent home by Simon. Her performance was high energy and I liked it better than the judges did, but I don't think it really showcased her vocals that well.

My fave performance was Kris - I loved the way he changed that song! Anoop was my second fave - I thought his voice sounded really good (and he looked great!).

I have a feeling that Lil and Matt will go home but who knows?
It is going to be intense to send two home at one time.

Thanks for the recap and have a great day!

  2. I'm with you on your choices - should be interesting tonight! They all have such strong voices. I really like everything about Chris but think he is overshadowed at this point by a few others..menehune

  3. I watched last night and really enjoyed all the performances. It was fun! From what I saw and heard from the judges, it seems that Matt and Lil will be going home tonight. Whadda you think? :) Wonderful recap, Kathy.

    Happy Wednesday!

  4. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your recaps!

Annie, I thought it was also odd that they didn’t have a mentor last night. And seeing that the Idols sang three Donna Summer songs it would’ve been so great if she was the mentor! I heard that David Archuleta is going to perform in tonight’s results show which should be great! I really felt bad for Lil (and I agree that the dreaded first up didn't help her) and especially because Simon was so harsh with her (a little too much in my opinion). I thought she did a really good performance but the judges really didn’t like it. Kris was great and so was Anoop. I think Lil and Matt will end up in the bottom two? It’s hard at this stage, because they really are all very good. Thanks for your recap Annie! Have a great day too!

M, tonight will be very interesting and like you said the remaining Idols are all very strong and it is hard to see them leave. Chris was excellent and he was my second favorite. And I think he is strong enough to end up in the final three or even final two. Although I really like Alison and Danny too, it’s going to be tough from this point on to see any of them leave. Thanks for your recap M. Have a great day!

Maria, I’m so glad that you watched and enjoyed the AI performances. I also think that Matt and Lil will sadly end up in the bottom two tonight as well and might be going home. It will be very hard to watch the results show tonight and to see anyone of these top 7 Idols leave the show. I will however enjoy seeing the group performance and David Archuleta perform tonight. Thanks for your recap Maria! Have a great day too!

  5. Trekcapri-great synopsis. I watched and absolutely was so captivated by Adam's performance. I wish I could hear that song again the way he did. I loved the era of disco and never expected his song choice to sound like that. It was pure genius. I like so many of the performers. They are all talented and I hope this will help launch all of their careers. Adam is in a league of his own. I think his career has already been created win or lose. I did feel horrible for Lil with Simon's critique. I respect what Simon says but sometimes I feel the critiques could be tempered a bit. I think she and Matt are gone.
I can't watch tonight so I'll be reading your review.

  7. Agree, great recap. From our couch, we think Lil and Anoop will be going home. And what actually makes me sad is that I like Lil, loved her, really, in tryouts, but she just couldn't come with the A-game to the final stage, and she's had some tough competition. She's seems ok, but the judges have been rough on her.

  8. Kathy,

I only caught the last bit of the show, when the judges were evaluating Anoop's performance. Wow, Simon really did not like it.
Although, in their little recap, I thought the bit I heard from him was good.
I'll be waiting your recap for the results tonight.

  9. Hi Barb, glad you liked my recap comments. I loved Adam’s performance so much that I downloaded it from iTunes for $1.49! I didn’t expect that song from him too and I also thought his arrangement and performance was pure genius! And the only performer that I have ever said that about is the cool one, Prince. I thought the Idols did a really great job with picking their songs and performing them. I also think that Adam has already established his success based upon how he has performed so far on the show. Simon was definitely too harsh with Lil. Tonight's show will be very interesting! Can't wait...

HI Jane, thanks so much for the link. That was very interesting and I enjoyed listening all about his performances in that Zodiac show. I bet they will miss Adam when his career starts to sky rocket post Idol. I really think that they may be correct in that Adam is destined for mega success and that he is the one to beat in this competition. I think he and Kris are the most creative Idols on the show.

Hi Marcia, thanks for your couch recap… I know what you mean about really liking Lil because I do too. And it will be hard to see any of the Idols leave the show tonight. Although I liked Anoop’s performance, Simon didn’t and since he’s been in the bottom three a couple of times already, I think he could possibly be there again. I think Matt could be in the bottom three too and may even end up leaving. Tonight’s results show will be very interesting.

Hi Candi, thanks for your comments. Anoop did do pretty good and all the judges except for Simon liked his performance. The competition is pretty stiff, so tonight's results show will be very interesting. I'm pulling for Anoop to make top 5 along with Adam, Kris, Alison and Danny.

Thanks again everyone for your recap comments! I enjoyed reading your opinions and predictions. Tonight’s show will be very interesting and I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen. Only one more hour til showtime! Have a great evening everyone!

  11. Hi Maria, thanks :) I just couldn't resist. The smiley face can dance too but I thouht that would've been a tad over the top! :)
