Last night, the 11th Idol was eliminated from the competition! And this elimination was huge because that meant that you don't get to go on the American Idol Tour. Last year, I'm still stinging from the early boot that Rocker Nurse Amanda got when she was eliminated in 11th place.
Since I dozed off in the first elimination show last week, I was determined to stay awake last night and I did. The set up is the same, Ryan drags the results to it's climactic final two, with a few performances in between. It was really nice to see Carrie Underwood again and to see her performance with Randy Travis. But let's move on!
Danny, Lil, Kris, Megan, Anoop, Scott and Matt all in. Then Ryan has Alison and Michael stand and he announces that they are in the bottom three. I'm not surprised with Michael but I was very surprised with Alison being in the bottom. We are now down to Alexis and Adam. Well, I had no doubt that it would not be Adam, even with the less than flattering review from Simon. It was clear that Alexis would fill that third seat and she did.
Immediately, Ryan announces that Alison was safe! And now there is Alexis and Michael. After reading all the recaps from everyone, I was convinced the 11th to go would be Alexis since Country was Michael's strength and Alexis had poor reviews from her performance the night before.
Ryan announces that Alexis did in fact have the lowest number of votes and was asked to sing her song while the judges deliberate whether or not to use their one and only precious "save" on her. This sucks! I think the format has to be hard on the Idols to have to perform and watch the judges deliberate right in front of you. After finishing her song and Alexis did sing it a lot better than she did last night, Simon announces that it was the end of the line for Alexis. They will not be using their one save on her.
Alexis was one of my earlier favorites and she has an awesome voice! I think she will have a bright future given the exposure she got on the show. Did you know that Rocker Nurse Amanda already has a record out. They may not be in the superstar status because they didn't stay very long on the show but being on AI is still a very good career booster.
And that's my Recap! Keep on Rocking AI . . .
I agree with you, it seemed very cruel to tell her "we might save you" and then not do it! Plus, they were talking while she sang not really listening!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I'm surprised she is not in the Top Ten. But I think you are right, in that she was starting to sound the same every week. And maybe her talking too much to the judges caused people not to vote for her too.
There's some very interesting talent in the Top Ten and next week is Motown week! Will be much better than County week and will be fun to see what songs everyone chooses!
Happy Thursday Kathy and thanks for the great recap!
Hi Annie, I think the bottom two were correct, but it gets tougher each week because the top 11 - 12 are all very deserving of being where they are. I love Motown and the two that I' m the most anxious to see sing Motown is Adam and Megan. I think Lil and Matt and even Alison will be very good in this genre! Thanks for your recap comments Annie.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday to you too. I think I read that your heels will be playing today. Whoo hoo if they are!
I have a feeling Anoop will do well with Motown too. Lil should completely blow it out of the park!
ReplyDeleteSo the Top Ten is 3 girls and 7 guys, that's pretty wild isn't it?
Thanks Kathy, yes they are playing this afternoon and I am going to sneak out of work early. Go Heels!
Hi Annie, you're totally right about Anoop, he' a going to be really great with the Motown genre! And Motown is Lil's best style of music so I look to her and Anoop being very good next week. Alison is more harder edged in Her style so she could be interesting to watch. And then there is Adam.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the game Annie! Go heels!

The results didn't really surprise me but I had high hopes for Allison - woops, (Randy) Alexis. The save - It does seem to be a bit of a 'begging tool' - and I don't really get the point to subject someone to that humiliation. What does it really measure? Make the show more dramatic and raise the ratings? Maybe. But you know how I feel about it changing the flavor of the show.
ReplyDeleteMy inquiring mind wants to know if Paula have some sort of a connection/crystal ball that she says with no compromise to these departing contestants = 'don't worry, you will have a singing/acting future'. And sometimes it's followed by 'she knows what I mean.' She did this twice already. Hmmm....menehune
Hi M, I agree with you. There has to be another way to structure the "save" decision. I think it is added stress to subject the Idols to perform their swan song and watch as the judges deliberate their decision. And the fact that they are deliberating during their song just makes it obvious that no matter how they are singing they have pretty much made up their mind. I like the Save idea but I'm not a fan of how they structured the format. I think once they know who has the lowest score they should be asked then and there if they will use the save on them and if not then they can sing their farewell song and show the video.
ReplyDeletePaula is being Paula. I actaully do agree that these Idols will have some measure of success after idol that they would not have had if they were not on the show. But I think the ones that stay longer and who are the most talented regardless if they win it all or leave too early in the competition will benefit the most.
Thanks for your recap comments M! BTW, poor Randy getting Alexis' name wrong. Oops.
