I finally decided to join PhotoHunt (albeit a day late):). Following in the footsteps of Candi and Kim, I also went with the "covered" theme.
The Chapel Bridge in Lucerne, Switzerland is a covered bridge 670 feet in length crossing the Reuss River. The original bridge built in 1333 was considered to have been the oldest wooden bridge in Europe until a fire destroyed most of it's structure in 1993. I'm so glad that it was rebuilt.
Inside the bridge there are 120 triangular paintings with captions from the 17th century that depicts events from Lucerne's history. It made crossing the length of the bridge really interesting.
There are more Photo Hunters HERE.
Better late than never, I say! I'm so glad you posted this because I'd never heard of this bridge and it's fascinating. Wonderful photos too! I'd love to walk across this bridge and look at all those paintings.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great weekend! It's almost 70 degrees in NC today and I'm getting ready to go outside without a hat and gloves for the first time in a while, yay!

I had a pretty good weekend, although it was a little rainey. You know, I managed to visit the other pet adoption agency on Saturday which was cool. I still haven't found little Ronda, but I think I'll have more time to go back this coming weekend and will keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks again for your comments Annie, have a great week!

Hi Girasoli, I’ve been dragging my heals about joining Photo Hunt! I’m not sure that I’ll be as creative as you all, but I’ll give it a try! I didn’t know that you had plans to visit Lucerne? You should do it next time. It’s a really pretty town. I’ve been there twice but only as part of a group tour so I can’t say that I know that city very well, but from what I saw briefly, I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your comments. Have a great day Girasoli!
Hi Candi, thanks for your comments. When I saw your photo and Kim’s I remembered this bridge and thought cool, I’ll join photo hunt and post it. Those paintings are cool! I loved everyone’s choices during this week’s theme. Can’t wait what everyone will do next week.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day Candi!
Hi Chicciola, thanks so much! I'm really glad you liked the bridge. I loved my visit to Lucerne and walking on that bridge and looking at all those beautiful paintings was a definite highlight. The water was so pretty too.
ReplyDeleteThanks again and have a great day Chicciola!
Hi Barb, thanks so much for your comments. I really enjoyed walking on that wooden bridge. And it was actually a little rainey the day we visited so having that cover made our venture very cool and cozy! The paintings were very cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks again and have a great week Barb!
Hi Kathy, I really enjoyed visiting and walking along the bridge during my visit to Lucerne. And the setting on the water and colorful buildings made the entire scene picture perfect. Really wonderful experience!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments. Have a great day today!
Ronda is out there somewhere! Maybe you'll find her next weekend?!?
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Well, I did it again. I accidently deleted Marta's comments so I am re-posting it on here for her with my apologies. Sorry Marta, but I did the same thing to one of Girasoli's post. Luckily I save the notify message and can re-post it here:

What an unusual and beautiful bridge. Thanks for sharing this area of the world with us. This is getting Switzerland higher up on my list.
Hi Mart, thanks for your comments. I thought that you have been to Switzerland. I've only been there on two group tours not as a Slow Traveler yet. That is on my Must do's because I would love to explore Switzerland more in depth. I think you would love it there given your hiking interests and all.
Have a great day Marta. I'm not sure when you are leaving for Borneo. I can't wait to hear about your trip!
Oh I'm so thrilled to see you joining in the PH fun! That covered bridge sure is long and how cool to have those painting to look at while crossing it. Fantastic photo, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteHi Maria, yup I finally decided to join! I think it'll be fun too. That covered bridge was very cool and fun walking through it with those interesting and beautiful paintings.
