American Idol Season 13: Where it All Began-Their Audition Songs

Tonight the Idols performed songs from their original audition. In addition to their individual performances, each Idol was paired off with another contestant to perform a duet.

But based on tonight's performances all the idols have definitely stepped it up. It's great to see how much they have all improved over the weeks with each performance.   I still really miss Majesty though.

Here's my top 4 performances of the night: I usually pick my top 3 but my third pick was a tie between Jessica & Malaya.

- Caleb Johnson sings Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. I haven't been a really big fan of Caleb, but he won me over with his performance tonight. I heard something very soulful and raw in his performance tonight which I had not heard before and I loved it.

- Alex Preston sing his original song, Fairy Tale. He is so talented. I loved his performance tonight.

- Jessica Meuse sings her original song, Blue Eyed Lie. I would totally buy her song on iTunes.

- Malaya Watson sings Ain't No Way by Aretha Franklin. I thought this was one of her strongest performances in the competition and I loved it.

Here's how I rated the rest of the pack:
CJ Harris sings Soul Shine by the Allman Brothers
Jena Irene sings Rolling in the Deep by Adele
Sam Woolf sings Lego House by Ed Sheeran
Dexter Roberts sings One Mississippi by Brett Eldredge

Here's how I rated the Duet Performances:
Jessica Meuse & Caleb Johnson sing Stop Dragging My Heart Around by Stevie Nicks & Tom Perry
Jena Irene & Alex Preston sing Just Give Me a Reason by Pink & Nate
Dexter Roberts & CJ Harris sings Allright by Darius Rucker
Malaya Watson & Sam Woolf sing Lucky by Jason Mraz

And here's how I voted:

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Thanks for the recap! I missed last night's show (was at a friend's birthday party) and I wish I had seen it, esp. those duets which sound very interesting. It sounds like the guys had a stronger night too. Hopefully I'll be able to see some clips on the results show tonight. Have they done this before (going back to the audition songs)? It's a great idea but I don't remember if they have done it in the past.

Thanks again and hope you are having a great week.

    1. Hi Annie, a B-Day party sounds like fun. They have not had the Idols repeat a song performance from their Auditions (as a theme) before. It was actually pretty cool because most of them performed their song with a different take and so it was like listening to a brand new song. They all did pretty well and as usual I cheated and found out from the east coast tweets that Malaya, CJ and Sam were in the bottom three and that Sam was the lowest vote getter (surprised at that) and sang for and got the judges save. That was cool. I actually liked his performance and thought that Dexter was the weakest. I'm glad he got another chance. But no more saves left and the competition should be getting really interesting now. :)

Thanks so much for your comments and enjoy the results show tonight.

  2. I'm glad they finally used the save (though I wish they had used it for Majesty). You are right, this will heat things up now!

    1. Hi Annie, you read my mind. I also wished they had used the save on Majesty. Like Sam, her performance wasn't the weakest last week.

I'm glad we don't have to watch them sing for their life now. That part of the save process is just really hard to watch, especially when you know the judges aren't going to use the save. It should be very interesting from this point on. It seems like the strongest are Caleb, Jessica and Alex.

Thanks so much for your comments and have a great weekend.
