Saturday's PhotoHunting: Steps

What goes up . . .

Must come down . . . .

The steps going up the Ollantaytambo Fortress (Temple Hill) in Peru doesn't look so bad from afar, but it is deceiving. The steps are narrow, high and uneven and although going up isn't so bad, coming down can be tricky and really hard on your knees.

While resting in a shaded bench at the bottom I spotted this group having the same challenges going down these steps as I had.

Now if you think narrow, uneven steps are bad, check out these "Floating Stairs" in Machu Picchu. And no, I did not try them. :)

  1. I'm like you in preferring to go up than down often times -- for me, especially on steep paths with loose sand and rocks falling away and making me think that I'll soon be rolling down along with them! ;(

    1. Hi YTSL, yikes. Yes going down can be tricky. I usually don't care about shoe support while hiking and almost didn't take the shoes I did. But it served me so well on this trip because of the uneven stairs. Couple of times my feet turned, but my shoes gave such great support I didn't fall :( I took it slow, easy and did the sideways thing like this group. Oh and holding on to a rock if there was one available until I secured my footing. :)

Thanks so much for your comments and have a great weekend.

  2. Great photos, Kathy. Those floating steps are so beautiful but I'm glad you didn't try them. I'm enjoying seeing more photos from your trip to Peru!

    1. Hi Annie, thanks so much for your comments and for liking my photos. Yes, I really need to have something below steps I walk on and something to hang on to for me to try them. :) I haven't had much time to post about my Peru trip, so I'm glad to find several PhotoHunt themes to display my photos. :)

      Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Gattina, I've not been to Turkey, but if I am lucky to go I'll be prepared for those steps. :)

Thanks so much for your comments. Have a wonderful weekend.

  4. Great photos! It's almost like a tower outside! I don't think I would have tried those steps either. I love seeing all your photos of Peru.
