PhotoHunt: Informative

A "book" can be a very informative resource for entertainment, inspiration and for learning.

This week I attended a training conference in Portland, Oregon and one of the must see's while there was visiting the famous Powell's Bookstore.

Located in the very trendy Pearl District, Powell's Bookstore (Wikipedia) is the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world. It is 68,000 square feet, occupies 4 floors and it literally takes up an entire city block.   With that said, I knew this was a must see for me.  Once inside, I made a B-Line for the 2nd floor where I found the Travel Section.

Once there, I made another B-Line for the Italy section...

I spent $85 dollars and came out with six very informative new and used books.  It's a good thing I had spare room in my carry-on luggage. :)

  6. Hi Jerry, thanks so much for your comments. This was my first time visiting Powells and it was pretty impressive. I also love the idea of selling used as well as new books. Got some pretty interesting books to take home to keep me inspired....

    Have a great day today.

  7. Hi Kathy,
Isn't Powell's wonderful. I can always find any book that I am looking for when I am there. However, ever since moving from Spain and having to try and get rid of over 200 books, I no longer buy books. But I still enjoy browsing.

  8. Hi Maya, thanks so much for your comments. I loved Powell's. I can spend hours I think there. 200 books is a lot. I don't blame you for stopping.

I probably need to stop buying, too, but can't seem to help myself. :)

Hope you have a great weekend.

  9. I have heard so many great things about this bookstore! I love bookstores. Wish we had one of these here but sadly most bookstores are closing these days. I always spend a lot of time in bookstores while in Italy. Hopefully they will survive.

SO... is it true that you are planning another trip to Italy?? Where??

  10. Hi Girasoli, it is an awesome bookstore and a great place to hang out for hours. I'm wondering how the kindles, nook and ibooks would be affecting the book industry. I do use ibook and kindle for convenience but I also still buy books.

I'm still hunting for a good airfare and flight itinerary but yes the plan for 2011, back to my beloved Italy. Reading all you girls blogs was just too much for me to resist not returning to Italy myself. Thank you for taking the time to blog about your trip. I've enjoyed reading about your time in Italy and seeing your beautiful photos.
