American Idol: Final three sing three songs . . .

Tonight, the Idols perform three songs in order to earn a spot in next week's Finale show and here's how the night went.

Round 1:  Idol's choice

Scotty McCreery sings "Amazed” by Lonestar - Loved seeing his higher range.

Lauren Alaina sings “Wild One” by Faith Hill - Great energy on stage.

Haley Reinhart sings “What Is and What Should Never Be” by Led Zepplin - Off the charts and I loved seeing her dad "rip it" on guitar. And Kudos to her for getting up after a fall without skipping a beat.

Round 2:  Jimmy Iovine's choice

Scotty McCreery sings “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” by Thompson Square - Perfect song choice.

Lauren Alaina sings “If I Die Young”by the Band Perry - Great song choice and vocals.

Haley Reinhart sings “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac - She has such a range and great stage presence.

Round 3:  Judges choice

Scotty McCreery sings Kenny Rogers’ “She Believes in Me” - Very nice and his dad singing "Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low . . . so cute!

Lauren Alaina sings Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” - Nailed it . . .

Haley Reinhart sings Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” - I love how Haley gets into all the songs that she sings.

This is probably one of the best group of contestants in this show's history and America has a very difficult choice to make tonight.  Good luck Idols!

I can't wait to see which of these three very talented Idols will compete in the finale show.  And btw, I'm also looking forward to seeing all the Homecoming Celebrations on tomorrow's results show.  AnnieNC (Thanks so much) was kind enough to give me a preview of Scotty's journey back home to the great State of North Carolina and it was very cool to learn that Scotty made good on his word and kissed the ground upon his arrival.

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. This was a very enjoyable year for AI. Good luck to whomever makes it...fingers crossed for one! And thanks to you for keeping up with keeping us up-to-date! PS: Have you watched 'The Voice'? Had time to watch that is week - interesting altho I can't quite follow what the progression is of this show.

  2. Great recap. Agree completely that America has a very difficult decision. I feel pretty certain that Scotty will make it but this season has been full of surprises. I thought Beyonce was a great mentor and am glad they have brought in some other mentors at last.

I can't wait to see the Homecoming footage tonight!

  3. Hi M and Annie, thanks so much for your comments . . .

M, you're very welcome...I also found this season surprisingly enjoyable given all the changes. the quality of the contestants were very well chosen and the judges have been entertaining. I have not watched the Voice yet. Maybe I'll check it out. Also, Simon Cowell's X-Factor will air soon and Paula Abdul will be a judge on that show. Not sure if I'll watch it as much as AI though.

Annie, I also liked Beyonce and I agree with you that she was a great mentor.I think Scotty will be in the final too but like you said this season has had some surprise eliminations. I'm still stinging from that Melinda Doolittle elimination. :) But he is so talented and is also a huge fan favorite, I think he's in. And between Lauren and Haley, I'm not sure. I thought they both did great, but gave a little edge to Haley. I liked Haley's first two performances better but liked Lauren's 3rd performance better. I think it's a virtual 3-way tie with an overall edge to Scotty.

Thanks so much for all of your comments throughout the competition. This has been an unexpected fun season to watch, made more fun by being able to share and exchange our recaps with each other. Thanks so much and now to await the chosen final two . . . Enjoy the show girls.

  4. I was a little bit surprised that it was Lauren instead of Haley. Great show though....loved the Homecoming footage and I thought those 3 Italian dudes were great!

Can't wait to see who all they bring in to perform at the Finale next week!

  5. Hi Annie, I was surprised too that Haley didn't make it but wasn't surprised Scotty made it. I totally loved Haley's song at the end. She was very cool and graceful in her elimination. I'm pretty certain she'll have a recording contract and very successful career.

I'm also looking forward to the finale showdown between Lauren and Scotty. Should be a great show.

Thanks so much for your comments. Have a great weekend and talk to you next week after the finale show.
