PhotoHunt: Memorial
While visiting the Edinburgh Castle in Scotland last November I discovered this Soldiers' Dog Cemetery. I thought it was so touching that they would honor their Soldier's dogs in the same manner they would honor their Soldiers.
To all the military men and women and their families around the world . . . thank you so much for your sacrifice and for your service.

That is very cool. I think that is wonderful idea and a great post for this week's theme.
ReplyDeleteThat is really touching!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great weekend, Kathy!
Hi Marta and Sandra, thanks so much for your comments...
ReplyDeleteMarta, I don't normally feel comfortable taking photos of cemeteries but this was so touching.
Sandra, it was pretty touching to see how much they paid respect to not only their soldiers but their dogs, so much so to have a special place in the castle. I'm having a great weekend so far... :) Hope your pre-trip preparations are going well. How exciting...
Thanks Marta & Sandra. Have a great day today.
What a nice way to honor man's best friend. In my travels I've only come across one Dog Cemetery--you read my blog about it.
ReplyDeleteHi Maya, yes it is a really cool way to honor the soldiers' best friend. The location is in a really pretty yard with flowers and it almost didn't look like a cemetery until I saw the little headstones behind the plants and the signs. I remember your post about the dog cemetery and I never thought I would come across one myself while traveling. Cemeteries always makes me very sad but somehow this one didn't because it was so touching.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your comments and have a wonderful day today.
Great, interesting post, K. Thanks for sharing. You certainly took in a lot of venues in Scotland!
ReplyDeleteHi M, thanks so much for liking my post. I tried to see and experience as many things as I could when I was in Scotland. Sometimes too many for my own good, but I'm still learning the ways of the Slow Traveler. :) It's still fun though.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week.
Love your take on the theme. What a great idea to honor the soldier's dogs. I wonder if any other country does this.
ReplyDeleteHi Girasoli, thanks so much for your comments. It would be very interesting to find out if there are other countries that honor their soldier's dogs and military mascots the way that the Scottish people do.
