Tonight the top three sang two songs. One of the songs was selected for them by one of the judges and the other was a song of their choice. This is it! Who will move on to the final showdown?
Well, here's how I felt the performances went tonight:
Casey James sings Eric Hutchinson's It's Alright With Me. I thought he sang it well but I'd have to agree with the judges. I'm not sure it was a great song choice or the home run type performance that he needed to get him to the finale. For his second song, Randy & Kara picked Daughters by John Mayer. It was an excellent song choice and I thought Casey performed it really well.
Crystal Bowersox selects Melissa Etheridge's Come to My Window. I love this song and although I thought Crystal sang it really well, I'm not sure I really loved her arrangement. But as Simon correctly pointed out, Crystal has always stayed true to herself as an artist with each performance throughout the competition and this performance was no different. Kudos to her. For her second choice, Ellen selected Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney. To me, this isn't the easiest song to sing and I thought she nailed it. Brilliant performance.
Lee DeWyze picks Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man and it was a great choice for him. I have to agree with the judges, Lee performed this song really well and I'd have to give him the edge over Crystal for round one. For his next song, Simon selects Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. This is a great song and although I thought he was really good, I thought there were some pitchy moments and it got a little busy towards the end. For this song, I prefer the simple stripped down acoustic version. IMHO, I think Crystal took round two! :)
Congrats to all three Idols and good luck to them tomorrow night. I can't wait for next week's finale show.
And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .
I haven't been watching AI this year, but thank you for the good review of this week's show. I guess Chrystal is favored to win, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recap. I missed last night's show and it sounds like it was a good one. Going to try to watch the results show tonight - go Crystal!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy and Annie, you're very welcome. I enjoyed writing the recap.
ReplyDeleteNancy, you are right, for a long while now Crystal has been the big favorite. She's been the most consistent and is my favorite to win, but I also like Lee too. Casey is also very talented. I'm keeping my fingers cross for Crystal.
Annie, I'm sorry you missed the show. It was a great show and with great performances from all three. I voted as many times as I could before the cut off time. :) I agree, Go Crystal! I hope Lee moves on too.
Thanks again Nancy & Annie, hope you have a great day today.
Thanks for all your recaps too! I agree with last night's show being quite entertaining. I thought Lee surpassed Crystal last night but if you take their performances cumulatively - well, any one (unfortunately except Casey - who will probably have a career anyway with his great voice and guitar talens) is up for it. Lee looks drained/fulfilled after his "Halleluia" performance. He certainly seems to be the one with the most growth. I only disagreed with Simon on the John Mayer song choice. Maybe because it's a favorite and his songs are favs of mine, but "Daughters" was a great choice! Mahalo, K!
ReplyDeleteHi M, I'm glad you like my recaps too. I have also been enjoying everyone's comments and insights very much too! It's been fun to see Lee and all the Idols compete and grow and I wish they all have a succesful career. I was surprised at Simon's comments on Daughters too and agreed with Kara. I thought he sang it well. Tonight should be interesting. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, I've been following your recaps, and find it hard to believe it is almost the finale. I always get a little down when there is a contest like American Idol ends. Currently, I'm watching one here in Australia that takes place in the kitchen, Master Chef.
ReplyDeleteHi Maya, thanks so much for your comments. I'm a little sad that the show is ending but it's kind of cool to finally get to the end and see who will win. I think the top three deserved to be there and it was a fun season afterall. We have something here called Top Chef and I wonder if it is the same. I don't watch it as much as I do Idol, but find it kind of interesting ever since I was participating in the Slow Talk Cooking groups and could understand it more. I'm not a really competive person but for some reason love watching anything with competition...Olympics, world Soccer coming up soon and other.
ReplyDeleteThanks again and have a great weekend!
