Music Monday: Somewhere Over the Rainbow . . .

Thank you everyone for liking my Rainbow photo of the month. It always reminds me so much of one of my favorite songs, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

A beautiful rainbow and this song represents so many things to me, but specifically, it represents hope, peace and a notion that dreams can come true . . . And to be honest no one has come close to singing this song better than Judy Garland.

  1. Hi Kathy, your rainbow really is wonderful. I feel like I have seen more rainbows here in Australia than anywhere else I have lived (of course not many during the summer season, but during the rest of the year.) I had never had the song pop into my head, but now I am sure every time I see one I will hear Judy Garland and think of you!

  2. Hi Maya, that's so interesting and also cool that you see so many rainbows living in Austrailia. You're very lucky. That song is such a classic. No matter who sings it, I still think Judy sang it the best. Simple and with a kind of innocense.

Thanks so much for your comments and have a great day today!

  4. I agree with you about Judy Garland! It is such a classic song that brings back so many childhood memories - back in the day when there were no VCRs or DVDs, and so you had to wait until The Wizard of Oz was on TV each year. I remember being so excited about watching it every time!

  7. Hi Maria, thanks for liking my rainbow photo. It is one of my favorites from my trip. I'm glad you enjoyed Judy's song this morning. Always gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling. :)

Hi Annie, I know what you mean. I remember those good old days too. Somehow I think having things air once and not being available on a VCR or anything really forced families to watch it together rather than these days where you can DVR it. I remember my mother always had a policy that when we sat down to eat dinner the TV was shut off and we would literally have to sit at the table and we would talk....I remember not liking that when I was young and wanting to watch TV and now I think back and I realize that those were the times that I appreciated the most. I think technology has really changed things a bit.

Hi Sandra, I'm glad you enjoyed the link. I love that song too and thanks so much for liking my photo. Your comments made me think about this song a lot and then it inspired me to post about it after finding this fabulous video.

  8. I love your rainbow photo. I have always loved this song and Judy Garland's original version of the song, although Iz's version, especially the combo with Wonderful World is right up there for me. I guess it is probably because it plays often on the radio when I am driving and see rainbows in the sky.
