Music: The "Feel Good-Fun" Factor

For my next music post, I wanted to write about my favorite music genre. Rock (this is a given), Funk (another given), Blues (love it), R&B (Adore it), Soul (I think it's cool), Classical (easy listening), New Age (relaxing), Hip Hop (also cool) and the list goes on! I couldn't decide which was my absolute favorite because I honestly love it all!

While working on another post, I stumbled upon a video that I took while visiting Florence, Italy. A group of us decided to adventure out into the city and came across a cool Piazza where the "golden oldies" music was playing and people were dancing. We decided to join the fun!

And remembering that experience, it finally hit me. Music no matter what the genre, is sometimes all about how good it makes us feel!

Edited to add: Being in Florence, Italy helped a lot too! :)

  1. Great post Kathy! What a fun thing to stumble across in Florence! I bet you were feeling good already and then the music just made it even better.

I don't know what my favorite genre is either - I like so much music of so many different types. I have to admit I don't really keep up with much of the music being made today and prefer to listen to oldies (rock. R&B etc). That's one good thing about watching Idol - it keep me a little bit up-to-date with some of the newer music, like Lady GaGa. I didn't rush out to buy her record, LOL, but was glad to hear her at least that once. :)

Happy Friday! I am SO ready for the weekend!

  2. Hi Annie, yes it was very fun! Prior to finding this Piazza we watched a local musician play a beautiful guitar piece of ave Maria in another Piazza and then we come here and they are playing Oldies and Disco music. And both experiences were so enjoyable.

I know what you mean about prefering the oldies. I lean towards the oldies, Motown, etc. too. And you are right about how watching Idol is fun because we can watch all the up-to-date stuff too.

I didn't get Lady Gaga. She wasn't bad, but its not something I would really rush out and buy too. Actually, come to think of it, maybe I don't love it all! :)

Speaking of Idol, I'm still kind of bumming that Paula won't be back for season 9. :(

Have a great Friday too! Yay! I know what you mean, I am so ready for this weekend as well. And our weather has cooled down a bit...hope that yours has cooled too.

  3. I love Ave Maria and how wonderful to get to hear it in Italy. Have you ever heard Aaron Neville's version of that song? It's so beautiful.

I'm still hoping that something will work out with Paula before the season actually starts. And I agree with your comment in the other post....stop with all the crazy twists this season!

Yes it has cooled down here too. It was so hot on Monday and Tuesday (too hot to be outside at all) but since then, it's been very pleasant. Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Hi Annie, yes I love Aaron Neville's Ave Maria. Their CD's are one of my favorites and I agree that his rendition of Ave Maria is very beautiful.

For the AI twists, I think the Save is okay, but I really don't like how they have to sing their song and then they deliberate in front of them. That seems too stressful on the Idols. There has to be a better way to use that feature. And the jury is still out for me on the Sing Offs during the auditions. Pitting friends against each other seems harsh.

I'm glad it's cooled down for you there. Enjoy the nice cooler summer weekend!

  5. Oh how delightful, Kathy!! Thanks for sharing this video, what fun to visit Florence with you!

I couldn't agree more with the last line of your post (both the edited in last line and the original one!) Music has such power to lift our hearts, no matter what genre.

Great post - thanks! Enjoy your weekend!

  6. Hi Anne, glad you enjoyed my video and post. I really need to get back to Florence one of these days. It has such a great feel to it. I can understand why you love it there.

I agree with your line too that "Music has such power to lift our hearts".

    Have a great weekend! :)

  7. What a great video! How cool to stumble upon something like this and have your camera ready! I love the music played, and would probably be dancing too.

I can't decide on my favorite genre either, it seems like what I listen to is tied to my mood, but mostly I love all genres, my least favorite though would be hip hop music, I just can't follow it much.LOL!

  8. Hi Candi, glad you liked the video. It was fun listening to the music and we had a great time exploring around.

I agree with you that the music we listen to is influenced a lot by the mood we're in. Normally on my communte home from work, I would rather listen to softer music to relax me after a long and busy work day, but somehow on a Friday afternoon commute, I love listening to Prince songs.... :)

Thanks so much for your comments and have a great weekend!

  9. This is another great topic...music to commute by. I'm with you Kathy, some days if I'm stressed or traffic is heavy, I put on this great classical radio station. So relaxing and beautiful. Other times, I need something more high energy. Love your idea about having a Friday Happy Hour commute with the Cool One!

I have several friends that are really into books-on-tape during their commutes but I prefer music.

  10. Hi Annie, a cool one Friday afternoon Happy Hour! I love that term! And my favorite Cool One song going home on Friday.... none other than 1999! It's just such a great party/celebration type of song. :)

I'm totally with you on the music rather than books while driving. I need something that doesn't require any kind of serious thinking. And since I'm constantly day dreaming when I'm driving, I like to also play some nice Italian songs by Lara or Zucherro! And maybe a little IL Divo too. :)

Commuter music is a great future topic. Excellent idea! We could have some fun with that topic!

    Thanks Annie! Enjoy your Saturday!

  11. Great post and video, Kathy! I'm glad that you found it and shared it with us. I imagine how much fun it was to be there with your friends.

"Happy Hour Commute With The Cool One?! I think it's a fabulous thing!

I love reading your thoughts and opinions on music in general and about your music preferences. I like all genres (except rap) and like others, it depends on my mood. Funny thing is that when I'm cooking something special, I choose the music according to the food. When I cook Italian food, I select on iTunes a radio station from Naples with traditional Neapolitan music. Beautiful music but it makes me very nostalgic, which is a good thing because I think I’m a better Italian cook when I’m in my “missing Italy mood”.

Glad to hear that the weather has cooled down for you and Annie. Ours is still a scorcher. :(

    Happy Saturday!

  12. Hi Maria, glad you liked the my post and video. It was a fun night out and although we couldn't really see much because it was dark, we enjoyed the music filled evening along with the other tourist and locals. I had a little taste of Slow Travel that evening where we were enjoying the atmosphere and not rushing around.

I love Annie's happy Hour Commute with the Cool one theme! Nothing energizes my mood more than the cool one himself. :)

I also love the idea of a music theme while cooking. That is another great music topic too! That is soooo cute that you play your traditional Neapolitan Music while cooking Italian. Although I bet you are a fantastic Italian cook no matter what mood that you are in.

Yes, thankfully, it's much cooler this weekend than last. I'm so sorry though that it is still a scorcher over on your side. Hope you're keeping cool.

    Have a great Sunday!

  13. Fun video! I would have never guessed it was in Italy (except for the words in Italian). I love so many genres of music also. It would be difficult to choose just one. My least favorite would be disco and those songs that get played into the ground on radio stations.

  14. Hi Girasoli, it was pretty hard to see in this video because it was so dark and they were playing an American song.

That's interesting that you like disco the least. I kind of like it but only certain ones. I love the Bee Gees songs and Donna Summer and there are some that I don't like. It's a mix preference.

You're so right though. Disco does get played a lot. In fact right after this song, they played Gloria Gaynor's I will Survive. Good thing I didn't tape our performances . . . :)

Thanks for your comments and have a great evening.

  15. Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of financial piramyde, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I make money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I get now up to 2G a day , and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I'm very close at catching at last a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Turn to my blog to get additional info.
