PhotoHunt: Stripes

For this week's PhotoHunt theme, I selected the Church of San Giovanni Battista located in the town of Monterosso al Mare in the Cinque Terre. Although under construction at the time it was so cool to visit this unique looking 14th century church in the old part of town. I really love this part of Italy!

And although a few days late, my photo of the month is of the small fishing village of Vernazza taken from the hiking trail above the town.

  1. Hi Kathy, now that is one cool-looking church! I love the perspective of your photo too. The black and white stripes are so vivid. I love your new photo of the month too, what a beautiful place.

And I really love your "Go Heels" in bold! I went to the Farmer's Market this morning and so many people had on their Tar Heel t-shirts and were talking about the game. Game day is finally here and I'm psyched! A little nervous too but excited.

Hope you have a great weekend and Go Heels!

  2. Hi Annie, thank you so much for your kind comments. I actually had another selection but when I was finding my photo of the month (and glad you like that photo too), I stumbled onto this cool looking church! It was hard not to notice this church with those as you say vivid black and white strips. It just sort of stood out!

I can only imagine how exciting everything is right now with the Tar Heels playing today! Whoo hoo!

Enjoy the game Annie and yes definitely Go Heels . . . .!!

  3. Great photo for the theme! I find the churches with stripes and contrasting colors so striking and interesting. And I absolutely love your photo of the month. I twice walked the Via dell’Amore many years ago and want to go back and hike the rest of the CT.

For a while I thought of using one of my photos of the striped arches inside the mosque/cathedral in Cordoba but I wanted to stay with a Venice theme. It's fun to see everyone’s interpretation of the theme.

Have a great weekend and yes, GO HEELS! I set my DVR to record the game just in case I have to step out.

  4. Hi Maria, thanks so much for your kind comments. I love hiking the CT trails and I really want to return there some day and just spend two weeks and not move or go anywhere except for maybe a quick day trip to a very nearby city/town! I just left a comment on your blog. I loved your church photo too and I really loved your photo in that cute bumble bee costume you made.

Go Heels is right! Whoo hoo for Annie and her Tar Heels!

    Have a great weekend Maria!

  7. Kathy, I love the stripes on the church, it gives it a unique looks.

And your photo of the month of Vernazza, brings back memories.I love that town, and when we visit the CT again, I'd like to stay in Vernazza again. I could almost see our room from your photo, or imagine it anyway.

    Great shots.

  11. Great choice for the stripes theme! I don't think I have seen this church. There are so many amazing churches in Liguria that are striped. I love this photo. Do you remember if the inside was also striped?

  13. Hi Everyone, thanks for all of your kind comments!

Candi, that's so cool that you can sort of see your room in my photo. :) You must have had an awesome view. I loved Vernazza too and if I am lucky enough to visit there again to hike the trails I would also love to stay in Vernazza again. It's crowded in the day, but in the evening, you can hear a pin drop it's so quiet and I just liked that it was so small and everyone sort of knew each other. Thanks again Candi!

Marta, thanks so much! Glad you liked my photo. I loved the bold stripes on this cute little church too! Really stands out from the other surrounding buildings. Thanks Marta!

Barb, thanks so much and I'm also glad that you like it and the view that I shot it from. I didn't have a great wide angle lens so I just shot straight up! :) Thanks again Barb!

Leslie, thanks so much for your comments! I'm glad that you liked my photo! I love that little church. Thanks again Leslie!

Girasoli, thanks so much! I'm glad you liked my photo. If memory serves me right, I don't think there were stripes inside of this church or if there were they were as bold as the ones on the exterior. I have one shot of a statue inside of the church and I checked it again and the walls were not striped. I would love to explore the churhces around Liguria. I love that part of Italy, second to Venice, of course. :) Thanks again Girasoli!

Menehune, how cool that you've been to that church! I'm glad that you liked my photo. Thanks so much for your comments M!

Thanks again everyone! I'm glad you liked my photo. I have enjoyed seeing everyone's photos this week too!
