Saturday's PhotoHunting: Paper

"Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo!"

On my 2005 Grand European whirlwind group tour, I visited the town of Verona to see the "supposed" balcony where the famous love scene between the fictional characters of William Shakespear's Romeo and Juliette took place. Although the balcony has no real connection with the two fictional characters, it is nevertheless a very popular tourist attraction for romantics visiting from all over the world.

While researching to write this post, I found an interesting NPR article, Letters of Heartbreak Find Some Love in Verona, Italy. Apparently, the City of Verona created this Juliete Club Office where a group of volunteers pour over the more than 6,000 letters received addressed to Juliete from around the world. The office pays for the space and stamps, but these beautiful volunteers use their shared experiences to respond to these letters of love and heartache. I think this group of volunteers and what the City of Verona is doing to support the Juliet Club is pretty awesome.

And for those of us who are fortunate to be able to visit Verona, we can post our feelings and thoughts directly on Juliet's love wall.

Here's a cool video guide box surrounded by more love notes.

Love notes up, down and everywhere.

And finally for my take on this week's PH theme.  Love notes found using a wide variety of paper.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

  1. That Shakespeare play sure looked like it struck a chord with many... BTW, the equivalent Chinese tale of star-crossed lovers is The Butterfly Lovers. I love the music composition inspired by it and also the 1994 Hong Kong film, "The Lovers". :)

  2. Hi YTSL, I'm going to have to look for the music for that film now. What a great title, "The Butterfly Lovers". Thanks so much for your comments.

    Have a great weekend.

  3. Wow ! that's a nice "paper" post !! I have been standing on this balcony in the 60th when I was 20, so not yesterday, but came back 3 years ago and everything had changed. It looked just like on your pictures. All these little papers didn't exist before.

  7. Hi girls, thanks so much for your comments....

Gattina, I think I would like to have seen this place before the little notes too.

Fredamans, I agree, I think the whole idea is very romantic. I'm surprised I didn't write a note when I was there. That would've been cool to do.

Annie, I also loved Verona and I wish we could've spent more time exploring but I was in a group tour and didn't have any extra time to do anything else but run to buy our 1st Gelato on the trip. And it was sooo good! :) Happy belated 4th. Hope you had a great celebration.

Thanks everyone. Have a great week.
