Saturday's PhotoHunting: Still Life

Choclo or Peruvian corn is a large kernel corn from the Andes.  I spotted this basket at a food stand near the salt mines in the town of Moray.  The colors of the kernels really caught my eye so I took a few minutes to photograph them.

I added a bit of HDR toning to give a more artsy effect.

And if you're wondering where my PH subjects came from, here's a wide shot of the fields where the Peruvians grow their corn.  This was taken in the town of Ollantaytambo where I based myself for 12 days while exploring the Sacred Valley.  I had just come down from the Olly fortress and while sitting in this shaded hut I could hear the rustling of the corn leaves and the irrigation stream that feed them directly behind me.  It was a beautiful sight, it was a wonderful day and it remains to be a great travel memory for me.

And to give you a perspective on how large these kernels are, here's a photo of my trout dinner in Cuzco which was served with these delicious big kernel corn.

  2. I've only ever had blue corn (tortillas and nacho chips) and the more regular yellow corn. Would like to try others like the ones in your photos! :)

  4. Hi girls, thanks so much for your comments.

YTSL, I only tasted the yellow colored corn on my trip and it was very good. I never saw the other colored corn and I wonder if they are as good as the yellow ones. I'm sure they are. I wish I would've asked the girl at the stand about them but I was so preoccupied with photographing her basket and well, she had just brought out a fresh batch of these dried banana chips and i purchased and bag. Yum and forgot about my question. :)

Girasoli, I had to google Still Life for this week's theme. I kind of thought I knew what it was but had to be sure before I picked my photo. :) I immediately thought of my beautiful Peruvian Corn photo. :) Happy Easter too!

Thanks so much YTSL & Girasoli. Have a great weekend.
