American Idol Season 13: Idols Perform America's Request

Tonight, the Idols performed two songs that were recommended for them to sing by their fans. I think that any one of these remaining Idol contestants are talented enough to win this year's American Idol title.

It was cool to see Jason Mraz as this week's guest mentor to help prepare the Idols for their performances.  He gave some very good advice to the contestants.  Overall, it was a very entertaining show and here's how I rated the performances:

Here's how I rated the First Performances:
Jessica Meuse sings Human by Christina Perri
Jena Irene Ascuitto sings My Body by Young and the Giant
Alex Preston sings Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood
Caleb Johnson sings I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
Sam Woolf sings Sing by Ed Sheeran

And here's how I rated the SecondPerformances:
Alex Preston sings Say Something by A Great Big World (IMHO, this was the best performance of the season)
Caleb Johnson sings Still of the Night by Whitesnake
Jessica Meuse sings Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray
Jena Irene sings Valerie by Amy Winehouse
Sam Woolf sings How to Save a Life by Fray

Group Performances:
Caleb & Jessica sing Beast of Burden by The Rolling Stones
Jena, Alex & Sam sing Best Day of My Life by American Authors

I know that I said that I would only vote for one Idol, but it literally was a tie for me this week.  I liked Jessica's first performance the best and I liked Alex's second performance the best. So here's how I voted:

And that's my Recap!  Keep on Rocking AI . . . .

  1. Hi Kathy, sorry I've been out of touch. I had to go on a work trip and am not up to speed on Idol, so I really enjoy reading your recap and seeing the song selections. Can't believe they are already down to Top 5! I'm going to try to watch the results show tonight and try to get caught up. Hope you are well!

    1. Hi Annie, thanks so much for your comments. Hope your work sent you someplace interesting and fun and that you had a wonderful trip.

While you were away, you missed last week's elimination of CJ, and now I just cheated once again and learned that Sam got eliminated tonight. Hopefully, you can catch some of last nights performances tonight. . :( I really liked both of them but I do think it was the right decision.

I'm not sure from the remaining 4 who will move on though. They're all pretty evenly talented but in their own unique ways. Caleb seems to be the fan and judge favorite, but I'm not that convinced he is the best of this group. I think Alex is the most creative and unique and I think Jessica & Jena too. But Caleb is a talented singer and a dynamic entertainer so I guess it comes down to America's preference.

Should be an interesting final couple of weeks leading up to the Finale. I always look forward to final when they have great guest artists to come and perform. Since the ratings have been so poor this season, I have a feeling the AI producers may go out of their way to book some pretty big names. You know what they should do? They need to get Prince to perform then advertise the heck of that so they can end the season on a high note. :)

Thanks for your comments and welcome back. I hope you enjoy tonight's show.

  2. I agree, Idol needs Prince to liven it up and bring some viewers back!

It's interesting that it's two guys and two girls left. I don't have a clear sense of who the front runner is. I read an article that talked about the low ratings despite the fact that it's one of the best panels of judges they have ever had. Makes me wonder how much longer Idol will last.

Looking forward to seeing who they bring in for the finale!

    1. Annie, I actually watched the results show (which I normally don't and I wished I hadn't). I could not believe the silly (no point) surprise twist the AI producers did. Lame way to spark ratings.

To have the Idols vote on whether they are all safe (and two get eliminated next week) or eliminate as usual this week. That was such an unfair twist to the Idols and I've read some tweets from at least one Idol clearly not happy with the twist. i agree with him. I really like Sam a lot but based on the performances he really was the weakest of the 5. But I'm really sorry about how the elimination went down. It would've been better to give the judges the surprise save than to have the Idols vote.

I'm really hoping they put that twist idea in the vault and throw away the key. :(

I just hope the Idols weren't affected too much by that drama. I think they need to hire Prince for the finale and hire me to mentor the Producers. Ha Ha!

    1. Hi Annie, wow I had no idea. I knew that there are more than one route to Santaigo but I had no idea there was a route from Venice! Very cool. Did Bert tell you that he's doing a second Camino this year? He is and I think that is just so cool. I wish I was doing mine this year too, but I want to do the whole thing and I can't take that much time off from work so I'm waiting until I retire from the City to walk my Camino. It'll give me time to save up and train for the trip so I'm okay with the postponement. :) Still, I can't wait!

Thanks so much for sharing the link Annie. Have a great weekend.
