A present day kitchen . . . I took this photo in a very popular restaurant called the Pancake Bakery in Amsterdam.
And here's a kitchen of the past . . . . the remnants of a kitchen in possibly a food stall or restaurant in the ancient city of Pompeii.
One of the things I love about travel is being able to visit the present as well as the past.

I agree with you re the wonders of travel. When going to historic and just old places, I often get to wondering and thinking about the people who've been to those places before me -- and the tales those buildings' walls can tell... :)

That must have been a ancient "Take Away" I just learned that the first once existed in Roman times !

I have always wondered how do the people in the past cooked without the modern facilities of a kitchen. At museums, looking at the display of some of the simple gadgets they made for cooking preparations, I am curious how the food tasted.

ReplyDeleteECL, I wonder about that too. :) Sometimes I think old school way of doing things make the food we eat not only more delicious but healthier. I prefer stove/oven cooked meals over microwave meals. I think the stories from that old kitchen would be interesting too.
