ABC Wednesday: Z is for . . .

~ Zaanse Schans ~

In 2010 while visiting the Netherlands, I took a tour to see the Windmills at Zaanse Schans.  We only had a few minutes of free time outside of the tour, but I managed to climb up one of the working windmills to get an up close and personal look at the inside and top of a working Dutch windmill.  It was really cool.  Here's what Wikitravel says . . . .

The Zaanse Schans is an open air conservation area and museum, on the bank of the Zaan River. It displays the traditional architecture of the area (green wooden houses) and has several functioning windmills and craftsman's workshops.

  1. What beautiful photos. A perfect selection for Z - I'm so glad you joined in ABC Wednesday too! Are you going to do it again? I think I might skip the next round but will join in again maybe next year.

  2. Hi Annie, thanks so much for liking my photos. I wouldn't mind joining again for another round. But I think I'll skip this next round like you too and I'll join again the next round. I'm also enjoying Gattina's photohunt so that will keep my creative juices going. Plus I joined this other photography group on google+. It's is fantastic. I think you would like it too. the only difference is instead of hunting for photos we have to take new photos with different themes like depth of field, all white, silouette, etc. It's a wonderful and creative excercise. I think you have a great eye as a photographer and you would enjoy it. People comment on your photos and if they like it they +1 your photo. Sometimes I get stressed out because it's hard to come up with ideas then go out and shoot. I remember I was out by the Pier in Manhattan beach with my hiking headlamps trying to take a night time photo. The was tough, but I learned a lot from the assignment. Being part of PhotoHunt and ABW and definitely learning from you how to pay attention to the fine details has really helped me so much to improve my photography and creative thoughts. thanks so much Annie for always letting me know about these great photogroups and for the inspiration.

Have a great week and see you in the next ABCW round.

  3. That photo group on Google+ sounds fun and also challenging! I learn so much from looking at other people's photos (and yours!) so I really do enjoy these memes. I haven't joined Google+ or Facebook. I spend so much time on the computer at work that I don't want another thing that will lure me into spending even more time on it, ha ha. But if I decide to join, I think I'd choose Google+ over FB. Glad you are enjoying it.

Yes, I'm going to continue Gattina's too! Hope you have a great weekend.

Oh, have you seen the movie Evita? Much of it is set in Buenes Aires - you might enjoy it before your trip.

  4. Hi Annie, I know what you mean about not wanting to spend even more time on the Internet. I feel the same way. :) I really enjoy Gattina's PH too and plan to continue as long as she has it. I enjoy the creativity of the Photo memes and learn so much from you and our fellow photohunters like Gattina, YTSL and everyone. And it's fun to see everyone's take, their photos and read about so much history and interesting facts. Great fun! I love it.

I am really enjoying G+ too because it is also fun and creative plus it forces me to go out and take photos so I can practice my settings and composition. I joined to help improve my travel photos. The people there are so professional looking but they are so kind and supportive to the beginners like me. :)

This is funny but I can't stand Facebook but I finally joined because I wanted to vote on American Idol and you have to join FB to vote. :) I spend very little time there but the little time I am there I found a really cool traveler's blog so I think I'll just hang on to my account so I can read any interesting travel stories that come up when I want too and continue to vote on AI. :) A couple of people I know through work found me and are so engaging on FB. I still feel a little uncomfortable on it. I think it's just a different kind of social media. It's okay, but I prefer blogging, tweeting and the format of Google+ because it is open to the public. People can read stuff on it without having to join or be a member which is what I like.

Btw, did you know that Steven Tyler resigned from AI. Yup, he's going back to being a Rock star and concentrating on his music with Aerosmith. Can't say that I blame him. Should be interesting if Adam replaces him. Interesting....

I have not watched Evita yes, so thanks so much for the tip. I'll order it on Netflix so I can watch it before my trip. I found some interesting YouTube video's and BA looks like a pretty urban city, but so interesting with a lot of character. I love street photography so I will try to capture some interesting images. :) I'm very excited and looking forward to my visit. I'll make time to blog and tweet, but will set my posts to post to Google and FB automatically. :)

Thanks so much for your comments. Have a great weekend.
