American Idol Season 11: California Dreamin' & Songs

It's getting down to the wire.  After this week's elimination we only have one more elminiation before Finale night. Wow!

Tonight the song themes are California Dreamin' and Songs the Idols wish they had written and here's how the night went:

Phillip Phillips sings Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival.  I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Hollie Cavanagh sings one of my favorite Journey songs, Faithfully. I thought she did a decent job, but it's pretty hard to match the passion of the original version.

Joshua Ledet sings You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban.  I'm a huge fan of Joshua so although this wasn't my most favorite performance from him he still did an awesome job.

Jessica Sanchez sings Etta James' Steal Away. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  Love the growl, love the blues, love the soul and loved her performance!

Next, the Idols perform songs that they wish they had written:

Phillip Phillips sings Volcano by Damien Rice.  I had never heard of this song before and I loved it.  He really gve a very passionate and strong performance.

Hollie Cavanagh sings I Can't Make You Love Me by the great Bonnie Rait.  I thought she did a good job but I have to agree with the judges a bit.

Joshua Ledet sings It's a Man's Man's Man's World by James Brown.  Standing "O" from me too!  Perfect song choice, great performance. Loved it!

Jessica Sanchez sings Dreamgirls' And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going. Dang, that was so awesome!

As far as I'm concerned all four contestants are worthy and are capable of winning, but there can only be one American Idol.  So here's how I rated tonight's two performances:

Jessica (First Round)
Jessica & Joshua (Tied for Second Round)

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Hi Kathy, thanks so much for this recap. I had to take care of my nephews last night and wasn't able to watch. Sounds like I missed some very strong performances. Starting to think that a Jessica/Joshua finale might happen! I hope to get home in time to watch the results tonight. I'm pulling hard for Joshua!

    1. Hi Annie, that's cool that you got to spend time with your nephews last night.

I'm glad that your liked my recap. Joshua and Jessica both had strong performances so I was really happy to see that they made it through. It was very sad to see Hollie get eliminated but I think it was the right decision and I'm sure that she will have a very successful career post Idol, plus she will be touring with the other Idols over the summer so that should be very cool for her.

I know that Phillip is a strong performer too and is equally deserving to be in the finale, but I am also hoping for a Joshua/Jessica Finale. Next week should be very good. Thanks so much for your comments. Hope you were able to catch the show. Have a great evening.
