Saturday's PhotoHunting: Local Streets

I just really love this week's theme because I get to share a couple of photos of two local streets that I found interesting during my travels.  Here are two very different images of this week's theme:

First, an empty local street of the past can be seen in this image below.  I took it while visiting the well preserved remains of the ancient city of Pompeii in Southern Italy.  You can read a lot of interesting things about the once bustling and thriving city streets of Pompeii here on About.com Archaeology.

And then by contrast, I want to feature a local street, called the Royal Mile, that is thriving today in Edinburgh, Scotland.  This local street also has an interesting history which you can read about here on Edinburgh Royal Mile History.

  1. Hi Kathy --

That Pompeii street photo really has so many textures in it! Re Edinburgh's Royal Mile: I visited there when I was 13 and thought it was the most crowded street I had ever been on. I wonder now, after visiting so many other places and living in Hong Kong, whether it would still feel that way... ;b

  2. Hi YTSL, thanks so much for your comments. It was so incredible to see pompeii. Sad but so interesting to walk the streets and imagine life before the eruption.

The Royal Mile was crowded and since I was there in November (off season) I probably didn't even witness the full impact of how crowded it can be. I'm heading to Buenos Aires this year and with 12 million people residing there I bet I'd find some local streets to rival both the Royal mile and Hong Kong. :)

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Great choices for this theme; I'm sorry I had to skip this one but was just too busy this weekend. I love the contrast between these two very different "local streets."

Hope you had a great weekend!

  6. I had no idea of this other photohunt theme, but coincidentally have been playing all week with photos of streets taken during my trip last year! (insert twilight zone music) lol

Love your photos. Pompeii is amazing and you've captured a wonderful corner of it. I haven't been to Edinburgh, but that street looks fantastic!

    Have a great week!

  8. Hi girls, thanks so much for your comments.

Anne, pompeii is indeed very amazing and it was worth the day trip my friend and I did to visit there from Rome. Edinburgh is also pretty amazing if you get the chance to visit. I think you would love it. Very different from Italy but just as interesting.
I think some photohunters are actually doing both photohunts which is cool. It's fun seeing everyone's photos.

Sandra, thanks so much for liking my photos. Yes, one with life that once was and the other with life today. I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks so much Ann & Sandra. Have a wonderful week.
