American Idol Season 11: Queen Classics and Hopefuls Choice

Tonight, the Idols sing two songs which include songs from the great rock band Queen and songs from today's Hopefuls.

Before the competition begins the Idols take the stage along with original band members Roger Taylor and Brian May to perform a very cool medley of Queen hits. Pretty amazing!

And here's how the night went:

Jessica Sanchez sings probably the most challenging of the Queen classics, Bohemian Rhapsody.  I actually thought she did a pretty good job.  The rock sections could've used a little more bite to it, but overall she did very good.

Skylar Laine sings The Show Must Go On.  I really thought she did a great job as usual.

Joshua Ledet sings Crazy Little thing Called Love and I loved it.

Elise Testone sings I Want It All.  She totally rocked it out.  Awesome.

Phillip Phillips sings Fat Bottomed Girls.  I enjoyed his performance,  but it didn't "wow" me.

Hollie Cavanagh sings Save Me.  I thought it was very good, but it didn't give me any goosies.

Here's I would rate their first round performances:  Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Jessica Sanchez,  Phillip Phillips,  Hollie Cavanaugh.

And here's how the 2nd Round Hopeful's Choice performances went:

Jessica Sanchez sings "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross.  It was a really lovely heartfelt performance. Loved it!

Skylar Laine sings Jason Aldean's Tattoos on This Town.  Great job again.

Joshua Ledet sings India.Arie's Ready for Love.  Awesome! Best performance of the night.

Elise Testone sings Jimi Hendrix's Bold as Love.  I'm not familiar with the song, but I loved her performance.

Phillip Phillips sings the Stone Lyrics by Dave Matthews. I'm a big fan of Phillip, but I didn't really like his song choice here.

Hollie Cavanaugh sings The Climb by Miley Cyrus. I loved it.  I think this has to be my favorite performance of the season from her.

Here's I would rate their 2nd round performances:  Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanaugh, Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Phillip Phillips.

Overall, I think all the Idols did a great job with their performances.

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Thanks for the recap, Kathy. It was an interesting evening with a number of songs I'd never heard before. Agree that Joshua's second song was the best of the night. I have a feeling that Elise might go home but who knows? The voting has been so crazy. Hollie has a good voice but she is not a good performer while Elise is, but it was Hollie's best night yet, so I have a feeling she is safe. Curious to see what happens!

  2. Hi Annie, thanks so much for your comments and recap. I have a feeling it will be Elise too. I think she did better on the first song but not so much on the second. And Hollie did better on the second but not so much on the first. I'd have to give the edge to Hollie because she ended the show with the better song just when the voting starts. But you are right the voting has been crazy and it's a toss up how the voting went. Should be an interesting results show. :)

    Have a great evening.
