American Idol Season 11: Who's their Idol . . . .

Tonight, the contestants performed songs by their personal Idols and to help mentor them Jimmy Iovine has invited the very talented Stevie Nicks.

And here's how the night went:

Colton Dixon sings Everything by Lifehouse and I loved it.  This is by far my favorite Colton Dixon performance of the season. I think I enjoyed it so much because I could feel the emotions that he felt while singing this song. He could actually record this song and it would be a hit. And by the way, love guys that can show their emotions.

Skylar Laine sings Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert. I loved her energy on stage and I also loved her performance.  She is so cute too calling Stevie "Mam".  :)

Heejun Han sings A Song for You by Leon Russell.  Heejun....finally!  Perfect song choice for him and a great performance.  I love funny Heejun, but I love talented singer/artist Heejun even more.  Loved his performance!

Hollie Cavanagh sings Jesus, Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood.  I'm not sure I liked it as much as Jennifer, but I liked it more than Randy and probably a little more than Steven.

DeAndre Brackensick sings Sometimes I Cry by Eric Benet and gets a standing "O" from the judges.  I loved it!  I was just typing my observation that he reminds me so much of his Purpleness when I heard Steven remark that he could give "Prince" a run for his money! lol!  This is by far Deandre's best performance of the season.  And I'm not just saying that because his performance reminded me of you know who.  :)

Jessica Sanchez sings Sweet Dreams by BeyoncĂ©.  I'm a huge fan of Jessica and for the most part I thought she did a great job, but I don't know if it was her best performance of the season. I did like how she tried to make the song her own though.

Phillip Phillips sings Still Rainin by Jonny Lang and he simply nailed it!  And what a cool compliment that Stevie Nicks gave to him and he deserves all the accolades.   Love his soulful performance. Like Colton, I think he can record this song and it would be a hit!  And he's cute too!

Joshua Ledet sings Without You by Mariah Carey and what a beautiful performance. I loved it.

Elise Testone sings Whole Lotta Love by Robert Plant and she blew the roof off with her performance.  Finally, someone to rock it out!  I would say that this is the best performance of the night and probably of the season. She can record this song and it would be a hit.  I loved it!  Well earned standing O.  And I love the bell bottoms!

Here's how I rated tonight's performances:  Elise Testone, Phillip Phillips, Deandre Brackensick, Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, Heejun Han, Skylar Laine and Hollie Cavanagh.

And here's how I rated tonight's Group performances:  Colton/Phillip/Elise, Heejun/Deandre/Joshua and Hollie/Jessica/Skylar.

I thought that Stevie Nicks did a great job in mentoring the Idols tonight.  All the idols did so well tonight and it's so hard to even think about one of them leaving tomorrow.

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Hi Kathy, it was the best episode of AI I've seen in a long time. Such strong performances across the board. And I love Stevie Nicks and she was such a good mentor. Incredible when she told Philip he was good enough to be in Fleetwood Mac!

I also thought of Prince when Deandre was doing his falsetto! And Elise went out on a limb doing a Led Zeppelin song and she nailed it.

Agree that Hollie and Skylar were the weakest. The guy on Idol Chatter says that tonight might be the night the judges have to use their Save - will be interesting to see what happens!

    Thanks for the recap!

  2. Hi Annie, I totally agree with your recap also. I like the Idol Chatter Website a lot too. I haven't read his reviews yet (got home kind of late last night because I had a flat tire while driving home). I was praying that I would make it home in time for Idol because I didn't program my DVD recorder. :)

Remember Melinda Doolittle. She does a great video recap with another blogger Michael Slezak who writes on T/V Line (http://tvline.com/2012/03/28/american-idol-top-9-season-11-performance-show/#more-316355).

I thought that was cool too that Stevie said they would have hired Philip to play in Fleetwood Mac. She also had nice things to say about Elise, saying that she would hire her to sing. I totally agree with you that last night was one of the best Idol show. All of the contestants really raised the bar for themselves. It's a great point that you raise about the save. They haven't used it yet and they'll only have 4 more opportunities to use it before it expires. It will be very interesting to see how America Votes. If I read that they used the save from the East Coast feeds, I may just watch the entire Results show this time. :)

Thanks so much for your recap. I enjoyed reading about your thoughts on the performances. Have a good day today.

  3. HI Y'all! I've picked up the southern twang (have yet to say 'mam')! I think I agree with Kathy. Your list pretty much matched mine. And, Annie, yes, I think this has been by far one of AI's better performances. It's a strong group. I'm glad Heejun came back strong and sentimental. I loved Stevie Nicks as a mentor - she seems very real. It was nice to see her being so personal. I think I not only love the idea of mentoring but love to see this private side of the stars as well. While I think Jessica is the whole package, I really wasn't enthused about her song selection. And although Holly has a wonderfully sweet powerful voice for such a petite thing, I sometimes feel she sings the song wonderfully but as JLO says 'doesn't really SING the song'. Hard to explain. I actually loved the trios. Tonight should be very interesting.

  4. Hi M, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and recap of last night's show. I also agree with Annie, last night was one of the best AI live shows. Stevie was a great mentor and it was very touching when she shared her personal loss and in a tender way as to inspire the Idols to sing with passion. I just read the feeds from the east coast and have now learned that Heejun was eliminated. I'm sad for him but glad that he had the opportunity to redeem himself in the end. He's a good guy and talented so wish him the best. I think the bottom three was the correct choice so I'm happy that America voted based upon performance rather than popularity. It's going to be really difficult from this point on but I think if last night is any indication, these remaining contestants are going to give it their all to earn the right to move on. Now I can relax and watch tonight's results show. :)

Thanks again Annie & M, for sharing your thoughts. It's fun to recap with you girls.

    Enjoy your evening.
