American Idol Season 11: Group Night Cuts & Breakout Performances . . .

The two standout group performances tonight was given by Group Sauce singing "Hold On, I'm Coming" and Hollywood 5 singing Mercy. I especially enjoyed David Leathers, Jr., Reed Grimm, Creighton Fraker, and Aaron Marcellus.

Should I mention the groups that did really poorly? Nah . . .

Next, the remaining 98 contestants who survived group cuts must now perform solo with the AI band. From the few performances that were featured and aired, I thought the stand out performances came from:

- Joshua Ledet sings "Jar of Hearts" - Awesome!
- Creighton Fraker sings "What a Wonderful World" - He has such a soulful style. I love it.
- Shannon Magrane sings "What a Wonderful World" - A different sound than Creighton but I really liked her performance.
- Reed Grimm, with only 30 minutes to prepare, gets behind the drums and sings an amazing "Georgia on my Mind".
- Adam Brock sings "Georgia on My Mind"

Some of my favorites who are moving on to Las Vegas:  Lauren Gray, Jermaine Jones, Adam Brock, Reed Grimm, Creighton Fraker, Hee Jun Han, Skylar Laine, Jessica Phillips, David Leathers, Phillips Phillips . . . Yay!

Is it me or does everyone else think that Jennifer Lopez looks a lot more comfortable as an Idol Judge this year.  Good for her.  Makes me want to say, Simon who?  And I loved the impromptu jazz session that Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson had with the contestants.

And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .

  1. Hi Kathy, thanks for the recap. I missed the first half but watched the second. The guy who played drums was so good and with so little time to prepare. There are definitely some interesting and talented people! I heard Randy say that it's the most talented group ever, but doesn't he say that every year, ha ha.

Hope you have a good weekend!

  2. Hi Annie, :) yes I think Randy does say that every year. lol....

The guy on the drums was so good. I hope he does well in the next round in Vegas too because I really like hime. My other really fav is Creighton Fraker, such soul when he sings. Should be a great Vegas round.

Have a great weekend. I'm still undecided on my circles theme. :)

  3. Hi K: I AGREE with you! I think Reed Grimm needs to get his head adjusted a little but agree with you in all the talent of the group you mentioned. I was a bit surprised with the 'country' girl the judges chose over the older woman (featured with her little girl)?

I too loved the impromptu jazz session. I think Steven brings out the best in everyone - who wouldda thought?? I think Jennifer doesn't have her x-husband (?) hanging over her as she did last year - her spontaneity is refreshing this year~ Can't wait to see tonight's outcome.

The talent seems better; the falls seem harder!

  4. Hi M, :) I think maybe JLO does seem like a load has been lifted for her. Steven does seem to enjoy himself and I think it helps the contestants. I was also disappointed that they didn't let the country mother stay. I thought she was pretty good. Reed will be interesting to watch if he moves on. I was so happy to see DeAndrea from Hawaii back this season. I thought he should've been put through last season and was surprised he didn't. His group performance last night was awesome. :) I'm looking forward to next week's performances.

    Have a great weekend.
