And here's how the performances went:
Scotty McCreery sings Country Comfort and it is a perfect song choice for him. I liked his performance tonight so much better than last week. And what a sweet shout out to his Grandmother, I think it's safe to say that he'll be back next week.
Naime Adedapo gives I'm Still Standing a cool reggae interpretation and although it wasn't vocally perfect, I loved it. I just really enjoy Naime's positive vibe and she is always so entertaining to watch.
Paul McDonald sings Rocket Man and I thought he did a great job with his song choice and with his performance.
Pia Toscano sings Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Yes, it's another ballad again, but I love her song choice and I loved her performance yet again. :)
Stefano Longone sings Tiny Dancer and I thought he did much better than last week. He was a little shakey at the very start but he picked it up and did a great job the rest of the way.
Lauren Alaina sings one of my favorite Elton John song, Candle in the Wind. I always seem to think of Princess Diana every time I hear this song because Elton sang it at Diana's memorial services and it was such an unforgettable moment. I have to agree with Randy. I think it was her best performance in the competition.
James Durbin turns on the heat with Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting. It was a great song choice for him and a high energy performance. Oops on the pepsi moment. :)
Thia Megia sings Daniel and I thought she did a great job. I think Thia is one of the best vocally, but I feel that because she doesn't have a really unique or big personality on stage she doesn't stand out from the other contestants enough which can hurt her in the votes. I still really like her a lot.
Casey Abrams sings Your Song. Taking the advice from the judges, Casey has a near complete make over, took it down 10 notches and left out those crazy growls for tonight's performance. Wow, what a difference a week makes. This is the Casey I really enjoy. I'm so glad, he's back. And I love his new trimmed and toned down look.
Jacob Lusk sings Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word and in true Jacob fashion he delivers a very emotional and fabulous performance.
Haley Reinhart sings another favorite of mine, Bennie and the Jets, and she rocked it out tonight! Totally agree with Randy. Haley was the best of the night! I loved it!
I thought all of the contestants did a really great job and it is almost impossible to rate them. But since I want to continue what I started, here's how I rated tonight's performances:
Haely Reinhart
Casey Abrams
Lauren Alaina
Scotty McCreery
Jacob Lusk
James Durbin
Pia Toscano
Paul McDonald
Naime Adedapo
Thia Megia
Stefano Longano
Good luck Idols!
And that's my Recap. Keep on Rocking AI . . .
Great recap Kathy and I agree with you that it's going to be tough to send two home tonight since no one really bombed. I think my favorite performance was James Durbin...what a showman! He really seemed like a pro last night.
ReplyDeleteI liked when Scotty said he'll always be a North Carolina boy. He is such a cute guy.
I'm worried that Naime might be in trouble....I liked her perfomance more than the judges seemed to.
And last night made me realize what truly great songwriters Sir Elton and Bernie T are ---wonderful songs last night!
Have a good day - I can't wait to see what happens tonight.
Hi Annie, thanks so much for sharing your recap. I liked Naime as well and she took a chance interpreting Elton's song but I hope her fans liked it as much as we did. Scotty really seems to be such a genuinely nice guy. I think no matter where his success will lead him, I think he's the kind of celebrity that will never forget where he came from. Kind of reminds me of Carrie Underwood.
ReplyDeleteJames was definitely born to be a rocker and entertainer and it's really cool to see him have fun and develop as an artist.
I agree with you, Elton and Bernie made a great sonwriting duo with songs that are meaningful and also entertaining.
Thanks so much again for sharing your comments and take on last night's performance. It's going to be sad seeing two of them leave. Have a wonderful day too.
You're right...Scotty does have a lot in common with Carrie Underwood. He's not quite as polished as she is but I think he has the same amount of potential. I'm not really much of a country music fan, but there are a few artists that are unique that I like. Scotty might be one of them! He's "old school" country.
ReplyDeleteForgot about this...when Ryan said that Lauren was going to sing the all-time Number One Billboard hit, I could not think of what it might be. But when it was "Candle in the Wind" I thought "of course!"
I got up in the middle of the night to watch Diana's wedding and did the same thing for her funeral. That song was incredible that day.
Okay, here's my prediction about who is going home....either Naime or Thea or Stefano. Thea might have a better voice than Pia but she doesn't yet have the poise. We'll see what happens!
Hi Annie, this is odd, I commented yesterday but now it's gone.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big country fan too. there are some songs I like and some artists I enjoy listening too and I know that I would enjoy Scotty's records. I agree with you. He is totally old school country and I like that a lot.
I loved Elton's rendition of his song during Diana's memorial services. It was so touching. I didn't watch the wedding but did get up too for the services. Its so sad. I was a huge fan of Diana and am a little sad that she's not able to watch her sons grow up and her oldest get married. That song will always remind me of her I think. Very beautiful and so appropriate for her life.
I totally agreed with your prediction, Thia, Naime and Stefano in the bottom three. I was very surprised that Paul was in the bottom rather than Stefano. I'm so sad to see Thia and Naime get eliminated. It's probably the right call on the votes. It will be very interesting to see how they do next week. I'm not sure what the theme is though but from the song choices they were talking about, it could be Tina Turner. I think. Which would be totally cool.
Thanks so much for your recap and thoughts Annie. Have a great weekend and enjoy next week's show.
I agreed with your predictions, K. Glad to see that Paul was saved. It's getting tough to see these talented artists go but I'm sure the exposure alone will help their careers along. Sorry to see Naime go - she was a colorful exuberant original! Great recap. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi M, I really like Naime too and I hope the exposure will jump start her career because she was really born to entertain and make music. I love her personality and I wish her and Thia all the best in their music career. I was surprised that Paul landed in the bottom three.
ReplyDeleteI think next week is going to be a rough elimination too. I'm looking foward to seeing their performance.
Thanks so much for your comments and take on the contestants. Enjoy the show next week and have a great weekend!
I would have liked to have seen this episode - I LOVE Elton John!! To echo Annie's comment, he and Bernie Taupin made an incredible song writing team. Great fodder for a theme night!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, thanks so much for your comments. Yes, I totally agree with Annie too, they made great music together. The idols performance many of my favorites and they did very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. Have a great day today.
