Scotland: Four things I want to see . . .

When I first started thinking about Scotland I immediately thought of three things that I really wanted to see: Edinburgh (heard it was a beautiful City), the Highlands (I've always wanted to see it) and the Island of Skye (for its amazing landscapes and grazing sheep)!

I had mentioned in my trip planning blog that for some crazy reason I really wanted to see some sheep while in Scotland because they looked so different. Blogging friend, AnnieNC, mentioned to me that a friend of hers sent her a postcard of a cute sheep while visiting Scotland and told me if she found it she would post it. It turns out that the photo on the postcard was of a little baby cow rather than a sheep. :) I'm so glad that she posted it. You can read about her story and see her postcard HERE. The unusual long haired baby cow was identified by another Slow Traveler, Andrew, on Annie's blog as a Highland Cattle. This breed has a pretty caramel color, long horns and long fur to withstand the harsh and cold weather of the Highlands.

Here's a cool video of a cute little whirlwind Highland baby cow.

Thank you so much Annie for taking the time to find your friend's postcard and for posting it on your blog. And now there are four things that I really want to see while in Scotland! And BTW, I have a feeling I'm going to need a thicker coat! :)

  1. I can't beleive you found a YouTube! That whirlwind baby cow is just sooo cute (and I think the mom is very beautiful too). I am glad these cows are on your must-see list now because I can't wait to see your photos.

Hope you had a great weekend and Happy Monday!

  2. hi Annie, I think there's always something that is on you tube so I went looking and sure enough I found it. I really like their long bangs!

    Have a great Monday too!

  3. The baby cow is just too adorable! I was amused by seeing him/her running around like a dog. The Highland cattle breed is very handsome and I hope you bring back many photos of these beautiful animals.

    Pack that windbreaker! :)

  4. Adorable! It is true, everything in on YouTube!

  5. Hi Maria, thanks for your comments. yes a good windbreaker will be needed. :)

I can't wait to photograph these handsome cows. From the video they seem pretty mild mannered however their horns do look a little intimidating. Good thing I have zoom lens! :)

    Have a great day!

  6. hi Candi, yes everything does seem to me on YouTube! :) I think these highland cows are so cool looking! I want to say that they are in that new Jack Black movie! I saw a commercial promoting it and recognized the breed!

    Have a great day!

  7. Hi Kathy, I was looking at your links about your trip to Scotland to check your travel dates and the link to "My Trip Planning Website" is not working. It opens to HTTP 404 not found error message. Maybe is something temporary but just wanted to let you know about it.

Funny to read about your airfare rumba or cha cha cha. I hope you find a decent fare with good connection times.

    Have a great evening!

  8. Hi Maria, thanks so much for letting me know. It works when you click on the blog title but not on the website page link. I took a look at it, deleted it then redid the blog list feature again, but it still comes out with that error. Strange. I'll have to study it more to see if I can figure it out.

Actually, I haven't put any specific dates yet other than the month of November because I'm still not sure about my itinerary other than I want to see Edinburgh, the Highlands, the Isle of Skye and any places in between that I can fit in. I think I came up with a sort of good plan but still learning about the cities, places/things I want to see and distances...It's all so new but I like the challenge and I'm learning a few things like wanting to see "hopefully" some sheep and highland cows while there, maybe a few castles and historical sites, a couple of chapels/cathedrals (Annie's influence) and then I really want to see some pretty landscapes ... so many things to see and to learn about.

I might leave around the same time last year which I think was 2nd week in November. But not sure when I'll return until I figure out the itineray.

Remember when you e-mailed me on 4th of July to alert me to some great airfares? I still remember that like it was yesterday. And then this year, Annie alerted me that Delta had a great sale going on recently. Both of you are just soooo nice!

Anyway, I'm going to see if I can figure out the error thing. It worked for my Italy trip planning page last year?

Thanks again and have a great evening too Maria.

It's me Trekcapri (aka Kathy). Thanks so much for visiting and leaving a comment.
