Music: Songs that inspire . . .

" Music can change the world, because it can change people." ~ Bono, U2~

This performance by Adam Lambert was incredible! And remember this awesome performance during our recent change in our young history! This beautiful Sam Cooke song was performed brilliantly by Bettye LaVette and Jon Bon Jovi at President Barack Obama's inauguration celebration concert: A Change is Gonna Come

After American Idol, AnnieNC, suggested that I continue to write about music as an ongoing topic of interest. I think it was a fabulous idea because music is important in our lives. It's not just something we dance to, listen to on our long commutes to and from work or on the phone while on hold (he, he)!

And so for my first post, I wanted to write about how Music is important in our lives because they can also inspire and represent a time in our lives that we find inspirational.

Thanks for the idea and inspiration Annie!

  1. Yay! I'm so glad you're going to keep posting about music. I had forgotten that they did that song for Obama too but now it all comes back to me. Adam's performance of that song was my favorite of the whole season; he did such an amazing job with it.

One thing I thought about when I heard that song during the Inauguration celebration was that one of the changes that people were hoping for in the 60's was finally happening decades later with the election of Obama.

It's interesting that some songs survive and go onto have meaning for future generations...Bob Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" is one that comes to mind.

Great post and thanks for the links to both great versions of this song. Hope you have a great weekend!

  2. Hi Annie, notice how I still worked in a little AI in my post! :)

I think that song will for me always remind me of Obama's election and it was something (although I had hoped would happen) almost never really thought could happen in my life time. I was happy to be wrong!

Dylan's "Blowing is the Wind" is a great classic too! I also love U2songs, Pride and One are two of my favorites. I also loved Adam's performance of that song as well.

Glad you enjoyed the post Annie! Thanks again for the idea and have a great weekend with your nephews!

  3. Glad you worked some AI in - I am having a bit of withdrawal because there is nothing that excting on TV now!

I never thought it would happen in my lifetime either and I'm still amazed (and so happy) that it did.

Another inspiring song about change is The Beatles "Revolution" - I love that song and never get tired of hearing. I think that people will still be listening to those great U2 songs decades from now too.

You have a great weekend too. It's gonna be fun to try to keep up with a 6 year old and an 8 year old for two days!

  4. Hi Annie, Revolution is awesome too! And you're right about the AI withdrawals!

I remember when my aunt came to live with me while their house was being remodeled. She had her little 4 year old grandson and he just loved to play this little miniature golf game. And although I was tired from working all day I always seem to find the energy to enjoy playing with him every evening. Children are inspiring too! :)

    Enjoy your weekend Annie!

I couldn't agree more! Music absolutely inspires us, moves us, strengthens us. I look forward to this theme (and might even borrow Annie's excellent idea and post a few of my own musical entries!)

  8. Hi Candi, yes I thought Adam definitely did an amazing performance. That song needed to be sung with passion and emotion and he did just that. It is interesting how songs can remind us of memorable times in our lives. Oooh that's actually a great theme idea! :)

Thanks so much for your comments Candi and have a great weekend!

Hi Anne, yay! I think it would be so great for you to write some theme posts on music too. Annie's idea is awesome and I think it would be very cool to read your entires on it! Whoo hoo!

Thanks so much for your comments Anne and have a great weekend!

Hi Menehune! LOL! Yes, thanks to Annie, I'm baaack! As another famous song title goes. And the Beat Goes On! :)

Thanks so much for your comments M and have a great weekend!

  10. Hi Nancy, yes he is so talented and I can't wait for him to come out with his CD! I already purchased 5 of his songs (which he sang on i-Tunes) which includes this performance! :)

Glad you liked the post! I liked your post about him too! Thank for your comments and have a great Sunday!

  11. I don’t recall seeing the AI show were Adam sung this particular song, was it the night before the finale? I miss that show and never got around watching it on the DVR. Maybe I should now.

I’m thrilled to see you blogging about music and seeing this song/video as your debut post on music. What a strong song and amazing vocals by Adam. He will certainly have a bright future coming his way.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  12. He has an amazing voice. I would buy that song in a minute. I have to say the reason why I stopped watching AI years ago was my frustration seeing people with talent voted off and people who were not as talented voted to continue as either a popularity contest or as a gag. I am glad in a way that he did not win because he will be able to go much farther without all of the AI contract obligations (although I think the runner up still has some to contend with).

Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful performance at Obama's inauguration celebration concert.

I love songs that are inspirational. Music definitely has a place in American history. I love how great songs live on and how they can provoke different meanings and memories.

  13. Hi Maria, this was the final show where the final two (Kris & Adam) competed. If you recorded it, you're very lucky. I purchased this perfmance on i-tunes so I can watch it over and over again! :)

I agree that Adam will have a bright future and it will be fun to hear his first CD!

    Have a great week!

Hi Girasoli, history has proven that one doesn't have to be the actually winner of American Idol to be successful. In fact witht he exception of Kelly & Carrie Underwood, most of the winners have come and gone. In fact, most of the success has been by Idols that didn't win. In this case I also like Kris so I hope they both do well.

Wasn't that concert the best. I still remember that like it was yesterday. Have a great week, aren't you off from School now! Yippee...

Thanks so much for your comments Maria & Girasoli!
