AI Recap: Songs from the Movies . . .

Last night's theme are songs from the movies and this week's mentor was movie director and American Idol fan, Quentin Tarantino. But before the competition begins, it is announced that only two judges will be commenting after each performance. Apparently, AI received a truck load of complaints from fans, because people were so upset when the show ran over last week and a lot of them who were recording it on their DVR's missed Adam’s performance. Looks like Adam is having an impact on the show in more ways than one! :)

Alison is first up with Aerosmith’s Don’t Want to Miss a Thing. I actually thought that she’s done better before, but I still loved her performance. And Simon picked her as being the lone female to hang in there with the guys in the end. I have to agree.

Anoop sings Look into Your Eyes by Bryan Adams. I thought he was pretty good. I didn’t get Quentin’s advice to him. Anoop just doesn’t have the kind of voice and style to pound the song like he was suggesting. I’m so glad that Anoop didn’t follow his advice! Smart!

Adam sings Born to be Wild! Talk about your high octane performances! I have to agree with Simon in that I loved his song last week better but I still thought it was a very powerful performance and I would be shocked if he didn’t move on.

Matt sings Have You Every Really Loved a Woman from the movie Don Juan. I thought it was good, but the judges (this time Randy & Kara) was a little more critical.

Danny sings Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie. I really love that song. And I loved his soulful performance of this classic, but the judges weren’t as high on his performance as I was.

Kris sings Falling Slowly from a movie called Once which I have not seen but he has. I thought it was the best performance of the night! The judges were split on it. Randy didn’t like it, but Kara loved it! I’m with Kara!

Lil ends the show by singing the Rose by Bette Midler (one of my favorite performers)! I thought it was good and probably her best performance, but I still sort of agree with Simon. I’m afraid she could be in jeopardy tonight.

According to my clock, they were over by 4 minutes! :)

My standout performance of the night goes to Kris! Next in line, Danny, Adam, Anoop and Alison. I think Lil could be in the bottom three and maybe Matt, but I’m not sure who the third bottom three will be. I do know that if Adam, Danny, Alison or maybe Anoop ends up in last place that the Save could be used! Not sure that they would use it to save Lil, Matt or even Kris. It's getting tougher and tougher each week.

And that’s my Recap! Keep on Rocking AI . . . .

And for Annie, here are two more photos of my Wine Bottle Flamenco Dress! Well, maybe it's more like a Flamenco Apron! It was showing just a tad too much bottle (in the back) for it to be a full dress! he he! :)

  1. Thanks for the recap. I really enjoyed Falling Slowly by Kris. I knew I knew the song but it was you that reminded me of the film "Once". You should rent this one for sure. It feels like you are watching real life in a way. I liked the movie alot and the song, since you seem to like it will stay with you even more after viewing the movie.

  2. Hi Barb, glad you enjoyed the recap and thank you so much for the movie review. I think I will definitely add it to my Netflix because it does seem like I would enjoy that movie a lot. I thought it was very interesting that Randy didn't like Kris's performance. I thought that he would have liked it. I'm looking forward to watching that movie! Have a great day Barb!

  3. Hi Kathy, thanks so much for the photos - that is just the cutest thing ever! LOL at apron...it IS very revealing in the back. I love it!

Thanks for the recap - I managed to stay awake for the whole show this week! Very interesting that they had to split the judges into teams...I have a feeling that they might go back to 3 judges next year. Truth is, everyone wants to hear Simon and it's not really fair that he only judged half of the contestants.

I thought he came down way too hard on Lil. I agree that it was one of her best performances, and she did change it up and give it her own flair. But it probably wasn't a good idea for her to talk back to Simon like she did.

Adam...I love seeing what he will do every week but I still wonder if he is meant to be a Broadway star, not a pop star?

Anoop did fine and I hope the hungover Tar Heel fans get out the vote for him this week.

Quentin Tarantino is a character, isn't he?

I have no idea who will be in the Bottom Three. I feel confident that it won't be Adam or Danny but that's about it. No one seemed really awful to me.

Thanks and have a great day!

  5. Kathy, I watched last night and really enjoyed all the performances. Those are some of my favorite movie songs. You have to see Once. It’s a wonderful, sweet film. I believe the couple who star in the film wrote all the songs. Lovely, lovely music.

I’ll be watching AI again tonight; hubby is away for a week and I can watch whatever I want on TV.

Love the little apron. It is a miniature version of the apron I bought for my SIL. Hers was yellow with black polka dots.

    Have a great day, Kathy!

  9. Thanks everyone! I appreciate all of your comments….

Annie, you are welcome. I hadn’t noticed that the little dress didn’t close in the back until I took these second shots and realized that hey this must be an apron too like the one Maria purchased for her SIL. It was too revealing ! :)

I’m glad that you managed to stay awake the night before and hopefully you stayed awake for the results last night. I was totally surprised that Matt had less votes than Lil and I was even more surprised that the judges used the save on him being the there are still two more weeks before the top 5 and what if their favorites like Alison or Danny or Adam by a fluke lands in the bottom! Oh well, what’s done is done and hopefully the top three will be able to get the votes to earn the top 5 spots on their own. And I’m surprised that Anoop landed in the bottom three again. Maybe there are more fans still recovering . :) Glad he wasn’t in the bottom two though.

You made an excellent observation. I think for the contestants who Simon likes but don’t get to comment on them could hurt a contestant because Simon’s comments can easily sway a voter's opinion. This “new” rule can change the outcome of the votes. The judges need to get it together and stay within their time limits and get rid of the two comments per Idol rule. I wasn’t surprised that Lil landed in the bottom three again but I did think she did her best performance. I really feel for Lil, because I agree with her comments. She really tried to show her style which is what the judges want and then when she tries it they don’t like it. I also thought at first that Adam was more of a performer like in Broadway than a pop singing star because of his style. But I somehow grew to really love his style over the weeks. Maybe eventually he might cross over in his careers and do both just like how Jennifer Hudson did with acting. And BTW I just loved seeing her again!

I’m actually not a big fan of Tarantinos films, but I really love his Idol enthusiasm!:)

Thanks so much for your recap Annie! Have a great day!

Flygirl, sorry you missed the show, but glad you watched last night’s results show. And I’m glad that you also loved the dress! :) Thanks so much for your comments and have a great day! Don't forget to watch Disco Idol next week!

Maria, I’m so glad that you watched Idol last night. Yes, I think that I’m definitely going to watch Once. It does sound like the kind of movie that I would really love to watch. The song was performed so well by Kris and it just really clicked with me. That couple is very talented to star in the show and write all the songs. I’ll have to find it on iTunes now! Glad you get to watch Idol and whatever else you want on TV for the week! :) It’s funny but after I took my two other photos and took a better look at the back, I realized that my little wine bottle Flamenco dress is a little Flamenco apron like the one you bought for your SIL. It was just showing too much in the back to be a dress! Thanks again for your comments and have a great day too Maria.

Candi,, movie night on Idol was great. Sometimes Movies can produce some pretty great songs and it was fun watching the Idols perform some of them. Luckily, last night all my Idol faves survived. In fact, because the judges used the save all the contestants went through and no one was eliminated! Whew! And yes, I love my little Flamenco Wine bottle dress too. I love the little ruffles the best! :)

Sandra, I think the little Spanish Flamenco dress is so cute too! I get such a kick looking at it on my Wine Bottle. I really should’ve bought a second one. then I could have real flamenco show …Thanks again for your comments Sandra and have a great day!

Thanks everyone for all of your comments. And thanks so much for your recaps as well. It’s great fun! And I get a great movie recommendation from Barb and Maria too! Yay!
