Music in Spain . . .

Uncovering the exact origins of music in Spain is like trying to determine which “spices flavored the stew, and in what proportion. After two thousand years, the Spanish sound is the result of a number of musical styles and traditions from several cultural streams". – Wikipedia

So just like the country, Spain’s music is one big melting pot of influences. But aside from the textbook definitions, I think the music of Spain is best understood by simply listening to it. Ever since I can remember, I have always felt a real connection to the beautiful music of Spain. I totally love it all . . . flamenco, new age, folk style and modern day pop. I love the rhythm, the energy, the passion and the soul of Spanish music. Courtesy of Youtube, here are some of my favorites (but there are more) . . . Ottmar Liebert, Tierra Negra, Nina Pastori, Carlos Montoya, Alejando Sanz . . . .

  3. I have that song in my iPod! Ottmar is amazing! I'm looking for mini speakers to take with me. I have a playlist for Spain and another for Italy.

You are going to love the music in Spain. And since you play the guitar you may want to consider buying yourself an acoustic guitar while there. My husband bought one 26 yrs ago and it's the best souvenir ever.

  6. Hi Maria, cool that you're a fan of Ottmar also. I have almost all of his CD's. You're just like me, I always travel with my iPod and speakers. There is such a great selection of mini speakers that are perfect for traveling. I bought one that also included the plug adaptor and a little carrying pouch. I think the brand is Jbl. Nice sounding too.

A classic Spanish guitar would be awesome. I'm sure your husband made great music with his special souvenir. I was actually researching a couple of stores in Granada. I'm there for 4 nights so I have plenty of time to check out the music scene there. I'm going to check out the transportation requirements with the airlines. Thanks so much for the tip.

    Have a nice evening Maria!
