The eyes of the world converge on Beijing China . . .

On 08-08-08, the eyes of the world will converge on Beijing China in the spirit of athletic competition. Ever since I can remember I have been a huge fan of the Olympics. I enjoy hearing stories of athletes and their families. About their sacrifices, challenges, dedication, commitment and strive for excellence in their field. My favorite competitions are track and field, gymnastics, cycling, swimming, diving, basketball and of course beach volleyball where 4 Southern California athletes will be competing for Gold! And from a traveler's point of view, I’m also very excited about the opportunity for China to showcase their beautiful country. I think they will do an awesome job and I'm looking forward to seeing the coverage.

The talent and dedication of each athlete is so admirable to me. In two weeks, we will be seeing athletes that will be considered the front runners at winning gold, silver and bronze, there are some that will have a great underdog shot at claiming a medal as well. And then there are the rest of the field that have a long shot at most and yet they are equally just as dedicated . . . their hearts and soul for their sport are just as real and their belief in the true spirit of competition is just as strong. They are all a part of and what defines the Olympic ideals and spirit of competition.

From the Official Olympic Website:

"One World One Dream" expresses the common wishes of people all over the world, inspired by the Olympic ideals, to strive for a bright future of Mankind. In spite of the differences in colors, languages and races, we share the charm and joy of the Olympic Games, and together we seek for the ideal of Mankind for peace."

  1. I'm a huge olympics fan. There are so many sports I love to watch, with my very favorite being gymnastics. I can't believe it is only 13 more days now!!

AND 104 more days for you!! WOW, how exciting! Believe me, it will fly right by.

  2. Gymnastics is my favorite too. And the Opening Ceremony! I'm hoping that we will get to see some Panda Bears during this year's olympics too!

Great entry! I love the quote from the official site too. Have a nice weekend!

  3. Hi Girasoli, cool another olympics fan! I'm actually trying to get my TIVO before then so I can record as many of the games as I can. I always enjoy NBC's coverage so I hope they do a good job. Bob Costas is one of my favorite commentators.

Had to go somewhere last night so didn't have time to comment yesterday but yes Whoo hoo 104 . . . and now 103 more days until blast off! I love my countdown clock. So thanks so much for the great idea!:)

And I definitely believe you. I bet the time will fly by too. In fact, I think as soon as I hit 100 days the time will go even faster . . . yikes. But I'm almost prepared and that is a very long almost! I wish I had your train know how because I think I'll be challenged on this trip with so many places I decided to visit. Knowing me, it will be an adventurous comedy of sorts! :)

  4. Hi Annie, I love the opening ceremony! I love watching all the athletes from each and every single country march into the stadium. I even enjoy looking at their uniforms and how some of them reflect the country that they are from. Aside from the great athletic accomplishments and possible world records to be achieved during the games, I think above everything else the olympics is so awesome because of the very fact that we can actually put all the politics aside and come together as one in the spirit of competition. Very cool!

I'm really looking forward to the gymnastics competition and all of my other favorites too. Not sure if we'll have a chance to win gold or medal but it will be great to enjoy watching us compete and try!

I also hope they will feature some Panda Bears! They are so cute . . .

    Have a great weekend too!

  5. Oh darn, I will probably miss the opening ceremonies. 08-08-08 is Dave and my 21st wedding anniversary, so we'll likely be busy doing something else...especially if we can send the girls away for the night ;)

I started to pick a favourite sport but can't decide between track and field, gymnastics and diving. Oh we have a strong rowing scene in Nova Scotia, so that's a fave too.
