The cool one . . . .

A fellow fan sent me this link and living so close to Harvelle's in Redondo Beach, I cannot believe that I missed THIS performance from the cool one himself!

He is well known for making surprise jam session appearances with his friends like the very awesome Shiela E and so it is not a complete surprise that he showed up.

Note to self . . . check Harvelle's schedule for any future appearances by Shiela E just in case the cool one decides to come down to the Southbay again to jam with his good friend! Do you hear that sound . . . that's me still kicking myself for missing this and being so close!

Sorry for the whine session! Off I go . . . have a great weekend everyone!

  2. Hi Girasoli, he is well known for making surprise jam session appearances, so I'm not surprised that he was there while Shiela E performed.

I do feel bummed that I missed it especially since I live so close. Harvelle's is a very intimate venue so we could've have wormed our way to the stage for a really good look! Oh well . . . that's life! I'll catch the "cool one" next time around! :)

  3. Oh my gosh, I wish you could have gone! I heard that he did the same thing in Raleigh NC a couple of years ago, just showed up unannounced at some small club and played to a very small crowd. Wouldn't that be amazing to see him in a small place instead of a coliseum?!

  4. Hi Annie, yes it would've been so great, if I had seen his performance at Harvelle's. I think that's pretty cool that he also did these surprise performances in NC too.

I agree that a small club is way better than a big crowded colesium. During his concert tour two years ago, there was tight security during his performances and no one was allowed to get close to the stage. That made getting good seats really important. In a small club, I think you can get as close as you want. My friend and I would have definitely found a way to get really close to the stage at Harvelle's! :)

Thanks for your comments. Have a great week!

  5. Wow -- I feel extremely ignorant! I had no idea that Prince was playing jazz these days. Clearly, I am way out of the loop.

    Thanks for this, Kathy!
