And so the love affair continues on in Spain . . . .

AnnieNC from Slow Travel passed on this wonderful link, Index of Art Historical Images. Lucky for me, a couple of them are magnificent churches in Spain such as the Cathedral in Sevilla and a really interesting church called Basilica de la Macarena where there is a statue of the Virgin Mary with tears made of glass. Now, I have to see that for sure!

And so as it was in Venice, the love affair with churches that was inspired by AnnieNC's Slow Travel article on "My Favorite Lessor-Known Churches in Venice" continues on in Spain!

Thanks so much Annie!

  1. Hi Kathy,

That is a wonderful site - very informative and with gorgeous photos. All in all a great resource! Thanks, Annie!

I haven't done much planning this week; been busy with everyday life stuff but I'm devoting Sunday to planning an itinerary and sending emails for the apartment in Seville.

I've been meaning to tell about an on-line guide to Spain that I first heard of in Fodor's. It's Maribel's Guides. There's info there for many Spanish cities and of particular interest to you there's a guide for Madrid, Toledo and Seville. Maybe you already know about this guides but thought I'll mention it. The link is http://maribelsguides.com/

Thanks again for posting the link and also to Annie.

    Happy weekend!

  2. You're welcome! Glad you like that link - there is so much great info on that site. And that Mary with glass tears is incredible. I can't wait to read about (and see photos of) all the churches and other places you end up seeing in Spain.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

  4. Thanks to you and Annie for sharing that link - what a fantastic list!

One of the things I am most looking forward to in Florence is the absolute freedom to linger in the many churches for as long as I want. To gaze upon the beautiful art, but equally just to sit, centre myself and fill up with peace and joy.

  5. Did I ever tell you that I followed your blog all last year?

You know how you had to cancel a trip once because of a family matter? Well, me too. My April five week trip to Italy couldn't happen this year - same reason.

I'm enjoying following your trip planning. You write so well and I love looking at your photos.

  6. Hi Maria, thank you so much for that awesome link! I have not seen that site before. I clicked on it very briefly and it looks great. I think it will definitely be very helpful. There's so much to see in the places I'll be in I think I have to definitely make a "Must See" list with the hours and days of operation. I read that during November the Alhambra is only open at night on Friday and Saturdays. Luckily my itinerary has me there for those days! Yikes... can you imagine missing it at night due to poor planning on my part. I'll go ahead and read Maribel's link tonight when I get home.

I was able to send out several inquiries last Friday, but I had a commitment to attend a function this weekend so I couldn't do much either and to top it all off I forgot to bring my iphone charger. Boy did I feel disconnected . . .

Thanks so much for the awesome link. I'll definitely look at it more in detail tonight.

Happy planning and have a great week!

  7. Hi Annie, I think it's going to be so interesting to see the differences in styles between the churhces in Spain and Italy. I'll definitely take photos of all the churches I see (and I think I finally figured out a way to help me to keep track of the information).

Thanks again Annie! Hope your weekend was awesome and hope you have a great week. I actually have a day off scheduled for this Friday, so it's going to be a short week for me! Whoo hoo!

  8. Hi Anne, I envy your trip to Florence coming up! How awesome to be able to have the time and freedom. What special moments they will be.

You're going to have such a wonderful time!

    Have a great week!

  9. Hi Leslie, thanks so much for following my blog and for your kind words.

I'm very sorry to hear that you had a similar family matter as I did. I hope and pray that things are okay for you as they ended up being for my sister. I can only think of three occassions in my life that struck fear and deep saddness so much for me. This was one of those moments. The other two were watching my parents suffer from a terrible illness. I'm actually starting to tear up just thinking of them.

For me, there is nothing that is more important in my life then the health of my family. So like you I didn't hesitate to postpone my trip.

I do hope that all is well in your family ... my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm very touched that you are able to share your story with me. Thank you so, so much.

    Take care Leslie!

  10. I wanted to comment on the video you posted on the Camino del Rey but that site doesn't accept comments. I was beginning to watch the video and stopped to call my husband so he cold watch it also. I can't believe people would do this type of hiking. My hands were seating and my heart was pounding hard on my chest. It was exciting to watch but also terrifying. I'm sending it to my brother who like me suffers from acrophobia.

Thanks for posting the video. I missed it in Slowtrav.

    Happy Sunday!

  11. Hi Maria, thanks for your comments. I think watching that video would be very hard for someone who suffers from a fear of heights. It even made me cringe especially when the hiker walked on the broken up parts. Yikes! It was Jan who posted it a few weeks ago. And while I was recently on the ST Boards, I had to watch it again and then post about it since I thought it was a pretty cool video.

Hope you had a great Sunday . . . and now I'll go check out what you all baked this Sunday!

  12. That is a wonderful link, to the index of historical art images -- I have to explore it much more closely.

But the two that you've mentioned, the Cathedral in Sevilla and Basilica de la Macarena are amazing. I can't wait to see your photos after this trip.

  13. Hi Sandra, yes that link is awesome. I'm only in Sevilla for a week, but there's so much to see. The Cathedral and the Basilica de la Mararena will definitely be at the top of my list. I'll try to do them justice with my limited photography skills. :)

BTW, I can't wait to read about your trip also...sounds like you'll be seeing some pretty wonderful things too.

Thanks again for your comments. Have a nice week and hope your recovery is going well.
