Finding inspiration in all the right places . . .

Last year I traveled to Venice, Italy and had an awesome time. Before I left I read a great article written by Slow Traveler AnnieNC (thanks Annie) called "My Lessor Known Churches in Venice". Her article was really interesting and it inspired me to visit some of the beautiful and lessor known churches in Venice during my two week stay. And I am so glad that I did! It was awesome!

While I was finalizing one of my Venice photo albums to go with one of my trip report pages, I was thinking about the music that I used for a slide show that I was asked to do for our B2V after party celebration. It turned out to be a big hit! So I was thinking that the music I used for that slide show and some of my Venice photos would make a cool video. I'm still going to upload them to Slow Travel Photos with descriptions, but being the music freak that I am I just had to you tube it as well! :)

I have to say that I really enjoy reading all the Slow Travel trip reports, articles, photos and blogs from my fellow Slow Travelers. For me, I find that they are a great source of inspiration. I probably would not have had the pleasure of visiting some of these "Lessor Known" beautiful churches, if I had not read Annie's article right before I left. Also, I don't know that I could have found the courage to go on my first completely independent solo trip in 2006 if I had not read about the positive experiences of other Slow Travel solo travelers that have blazed the trail before me like girasoli, sandra, annie, marian, ellens . . . and anne will soon be joining in too. Whoo hoo!

So here's to finding inspiration in all the right places (wherever they may be for you). . .

  1. Nice photos! I wish I had known of Annie's knowledge before my last few visits to Venice. I guess it just means I will have to visit again.

  2. Hi Girasoli, thanks for your comments. I know what you mean. I totally want to go back to Venice too, but next time I'll be much more knowledgeable and attentive.

I also remember finding your trip report and blog really interesting and helpful too! I'm looking forward to reading your blog during and after your trip.

  3. Kathy, you are so right about finding the courage for a solo trip from the positive experiences of others. I would never have dreamed of going to Florence alone before I discovered the Slow Travel site and "met" so many solo women travellers.

Your youtube video is awesome, and I LOVE your choice of music!

  4. Hi Anne, you're going to have such a great trip in October. Florence is a wonderful city and I hope to return there too someday as I only spent a day there on a group tour back in 2005.

The solo women travelers on Slow Travel are great aren't they? Looks like Girasoli will be the first in a long line of us heading out on solo trips this year and I can't wait to read all about everyone's experiences.

Glad you like the video! It brings back so many great memories. I think I'll be dreaming about Venice tonight! :)

  5. Kathy, that is so beautiful and awesome....I'm completely inspired after watching that! And the music is so wonderful and perfect. Great job - I'm so impressed!

Sorry I'm late to comment. I've been at a conference all week and just got home this afternoon and am catching up on all my favorite blogs. I'm going to watch your "Churches of Venice" again right now! Have a great weekend, Annie

  6. Hi Annie, thanks for your comments! Wow, that's a long conference. I bet Lulu & Little Maria missed you . . . .

I don't think I can thank you enough for writing that article because I totally know that I would've strolled right by these wonderful churches. Instead, I walked in and experienced something beautiful . . .

My next Venice Trip, will be inspired with the knowledge from reading your blog . . .

Enjoy your weekend and have fun catching up.

  7. Thanks so much Kathy, it really means a lot to know that I've inspired someone to check out those amazing churches! I know how much I love them and am glad that others get the experience too.

It was a long week and I really missed the cats! They are doing fine and are glad to be home. Maria grew while I was gone! She is sitting right here on my computer desk....she likes to chase the arrow when I move the mouse, LOL.

Have a great weekend and thanks again! I'd love to learn how to make slide shows like you did - it's just wonderful.

  8. Hi Annie, Maria must keep you so entertained! :)

To create photo slideshows take a look at a program called Photo Story 3 which you can download for free. As usual, I learned about it here on Slow Travel. It's a cool program.

Hope you had a nice weekend!

  9. Kathy,
That was beautiful! I loved the photos and the music. I got goosebumps at the end with the last two pictures.
Like everyone else, after reading Annie's blog, I feel the need to go back to Venice and pay more attention to the churches and shrines.
Thank you for sharing your lovely photos. :-)

  10. Hi Maria, thanks for your comments. When I was trying to find a photo to end the video with I immediately thought about that night photo I took. Glad you enjoyed the video.

I totally want to return to Venice one day and visit some of the places I've been reading about on Annie's blog.

I have to say that by reading Annie's and everyone's blogs I'm really learning how to take notice of things that I normally would'nt have. I also love reading about everyone's individual and personal insights on things.
