The Musical Rhythm of Faith & Hope . . .

I've been nursing a really bad flu over the past few days and today is the first day that I've actually felt a little better. Wow, that bug hit me like a ton of bricks!

In an effort to make myself feel a little productive today I decided to go through my Venice videos. While doing so, I stumbled upon a few clips that I took of the Santa Maria della Salute Church (Our Lady of Health).

I remember on my first visit, I went to light a few candles and attend mass. As I finished lighting my candles I decided to take a photo and a video clip when I heard the church bells begin to ring. I thought it was cool and continued filming. Within seconds more bells chimed in and the next thing I knew there was this remarkable musical rhythm of bells ringing all around me.

The Salute is shaped like an octagon and the acoustics are simply amazing. It's like the sounds flowed everywhere. Right then and there I knew that the Salute Church was going to be one of my favorite churches in Venice. And call it fate or a mere coincidence but my apartment was located within ear shot of these beautiful bells and only a two minute walk away! It was awesome!

Here's what I heard . . .

  3. Thanks Annie. I'm pretty sure I'll be completely recovered by the end of the week.

You know, when I played back this video and thought back to that momemt with the candles, I get chills too. What a memory!

Have a nice week! Don't forget to watch AI. :)

  4. Yes, AI tonight! I'm curious to see which Neil Diamond songs they all choose. I'm a bit surprised that Carly and Michael Johns are not in the Top Five, but I still think one of the Davids will win it all.

HOpe you start feeling better soon!

  5. Hi Annie, yes I am also surprised that Carly and Michael didn't make it to final five. They should have. I thought that Carly really nailed Jesus Christ Superstar last week. Jason and even Brooke should have been the one to leave based upon their performance. I like Brooke a lot but I have a feeling the nerves must be getting to her. I really hope she does better tonight. Okay, I'll admit that I have am huge Neil Diamond fan (not nearly as huge as Prince). I'm really anxious to see which song David Cook picks and even more importantly his version of it!

I also think one of the Davids will win it all! I just don't think the others have enough in them to do anything that spectacular that would knock one of them off. But then again I thought Melinda Dolittle was going to win it last year!:)

  6. I love this beautiful clip. I haven't yet been inside the Salute, so am thrilled at this glimpse. And the sound of church bells is one of the magical things I love about Italy. We do have a bell at our church, but it just isn't the same as these glorious sounds!

(I'm wondering how I didn't come across your blog before - it's wonderful. I'll have to thank Annie for linking to you in her post today!)

  7. Hi Anne:

Thank you for your kind comments. I loved listening to the bells every day from my apartment and I was surprised how fast I got used to it. When I came home I discovered that I really missed hearing them. We have bells in our church also, but they are nothing like the sounds made from the Maria Salute church and like you said there's something quite magical about hearing them in Italy.

Thanks for telling me that Annie mentioned my blog. I'll have to read what she wrote. I really love reading blogs and Annie's is one of my favorites. I know I've read and enjoyed your blog also and I even remember a great entry about a little fishing village in Southern Italy that I would like to visit one day.

Thanks again for your kind comments. I really appreciate it.

  9. Hi Girasoli, thanks so much for your comments. The bells were pretty amazing, especially in the Maria della Salute where the acoustics were cool. I love bells too. The one thing I miss about being especially in Venice...Actually the bells rang frequently in Salzburg too.
